Conservation Cuppers Selected Across County Townships

Judge Sentences Two Auto Drivers in Cass Court

Judge H. J. Mantz of Audubon in Cass county district court sentenced Leonard Myers 29 of Sidney to ninety days in jail for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. Roscoe Perry of Adair received a $100 fine and $3 costs for reckless driving after a July crash on U. S. Highway No. 6 near Atlantic that injured Harold Lowry and led to a leg amputation. Perry claimed he did not know he struck the motorcycle and left the scene.

Change Filing Returns Under Social Security Act

After December 1937, tax returns under the Social Security Act switch to quarterly filings. The first quarter covers January to March 1938 and is due by April 30, 1938. Blank forms will be mailed in time for preparation. December 1937 monthly returns are due January 31, 1938, with blanks mailed. Taxpayers must also file wage totals for July 1 to December 31, 1937, with blanks provided, due January 31, 1938.

Basketball Season Opens Friday In Local Gymnasium

The high school team starts the season Friday in a double header with Griswold at home. Eight to nine home games are planned with season tickets selling for adults 1.50 students 0.90 and pupils 0.60. A Christmas Seal Drive supports tuberculosis eradication with community home solicitation. Misner Players present Merchant of Venice at the high school Monday. National School Studio will take individual pupil photos for parent approval with optional purchase.

Chase speaks of European trip in club talk

EK P Chase former editor and publisher of the Atlantic News Telegraph shared impressions from his recent journey to France and England. He contrasted conditions in France with America noting unemployment relief high taxes limited auto ownership and lack of installment buying, while England he said shows more American progress with modern buildings and roads.
