Family Residence Case Sees Moves Between Counties

The Voggesser family dispute over legal residence spanned Cass and Audubon counties. A court ruling last March authorized Cass officials to move the family to Cass County, with the family resisting and appealing to higher courts. Pheasant chicks released in Cass County effort

Cass County releases 231 pheasant chicks, 12 weeks old, reared at Mulroy Farm south of Lypp, to restock the area. Of 850 chicks planted, 119 died from causes including destruction, storms. Walton family funded 84.49 dollars for the project, aiding conservation and sportmen support amid poaching concerns and fox predation.

Cass Plans For Sealing 1938 Corn Crop

Cass County Agricultural Conservation office outlines steps for sealing 1938 corn under the 67c corn loan. Eligible producers with under-allocated acreage and suitable storage must level crib and pay a $3 preliminary inspection fee. Lincoln Township celebrates the silver wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Baier last Sunday with a 1:00 dinner. Fatal Iowa Auto Accidents Decline 21.5 Per Cent

Iowa motor vehicle reports show a 21.5 per cent drop in fatalities through November 1, 1938, with total deaths 355, down from 452 a year earlier. Pedestrian deaths fell 40 per cent to 76. fatal crashes involving two vehicles dropped 33.3 per cent to 114, while collisions with fixed objects and non collision incidents edged up. October fatalities totaled 42, with seven deaths blamed on speeding and seven on failure to yield. Also noted are births, Thanksgiving visits, and a divorce suit in Cass county.

State Safety Council Contest For Iowa High School Students

Iowa ninth to twelfth graders may enter an essay contest on highway safety with a top prize of a funded trip to the New York World’s Fair for the student and a parent. About 1500 dollars in prizes are offered, with county sponsorship prompting 10 dollars per county for three or more competing schools. Second prize is fifty dollars and third ten dollars. The topics cover engineering education or enforcement, with county winners advancing to a state contest. A Dec 15 conference at Ames will address highway safety with speakers from the National Safety Council and state officials.

Couple Married While in Cass County Jail

A jail marriage in Cass County follows guilty pleas from Cassie Knight and Addie Dill Wells. Knight, 30, admitted stealing two shoats and received nine months. Wells, 38, pleaded guilty to lewdness and drew six months to be served at Rockwell City’s reform school. They wed in jail with Justice Don Lavery presiding. Four Wells children were sent to Iowa Juvenile Home and Davenport Soldiers’ Orphanage. Also noted: a $10,000 damage suit from the Hawker estate against Starr settled for $175 after a collision near Tenville in 1935.
