Canning Sessions Save School Lunch Costs

Volunteers are urged to help on Friday August 3 for another canning session to keep school lunch prices at 30 cents. Superintendent W. W. Fatka notes all work is voluntary and produce is donated from the Community Recreation Center potato patch. Needed items include quart jars and vegetables such as cucumbers carrots beets tomatoes string beans and sweetcorn. Congregational Women Ship 420 Pounds to Flood Victims

Members of the Congregational Church Women's Fellowship packed 15 boxes of clothing shoes bedding and curtains totaling 420 pounds and shipped them to Kansas City flood victims. No further shipment days are planned but donations of similar items are welcome and will be sent.

Clarence Foster Dies in Wiota at 64

Clarence G. Foster, 64, of Wiota, died Monday night at Atlantic Memorial hospital after several months of ill health. Born June 21, 1887 in Wiota, he served in World War I, married Anna Herchenbach in 1920, and belonged to St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Surviving: widow, two daughters, three sisters, one brother, and five grandchildren. Funeral today at 9 A.M. at St. Joseph's in Wiota.

Anita Junior Federated Club Plans Girl Scout Troop

The Anita Junior Womens Federated Club met at Mrs Claire Gill’s home. They will sponsor a Girl Scout Troop and aim to boost Brownies membership with the VFW offering meeting space. Contact Mrs Eugene Harris for enrollment.

Anita Midgets Clinch 6-92 League Championship

Anita Midgets clinched the 6-92 league title after avenging a prior loss to Stuart with a 6 2 victory and then routing Greenfield 11 to 2. Salmon, Lantz, and Harris starred as Anita finished 9 wins and 1 loss in league play, earning its first championship since 1944.

Play Day on August 8 for Local Youth Track Meet

On Wednesday August 8 at 2 00 P M children 15 and under are invited to a community recreation center track meet and play day. If rain delays, events move to Thursday August 9 ending the summer playground schedule.

Mrs Glen Fusselman hosted the Friendly Neighbors Club on Thursday July 26 with twelve members present. Roll call praised a favorite pickle recipe and contests led to wins by Mrs Donald Mehman, Mrs Howard Cog lon, Mrs Marvin Scholl, and Mrs Fred Scarlett who also won the door prize. County Tournament Finals Sunday at Cass County Diamond

This Sunday at 2 P.M. Atlantic faces Griswold for the Cass county championship on the local diamond with Anita meeting Extra at 3 30. Atlantic won 2 1 last Sunday to reach the final while Griswold routed Cumberland 10 0 in four innings under the ten run rule. Admission 25 and 10 cents.

It recalls a Friday thriller where Berea and V.F.W. were scoreless until late. Bid Haszard hit a homer after two outs in the fifth. Behnken beat Lincoln Center 14-3. Shaffers defeated Berea 8-6. Big Field at Anita Speedway Expected Sunday

The Anita Speedway anticipates its largest driver field yet as stock car racing returns next Sunday. Cleo Burmeister won the feature last Sunday with Bill Hagen second and Tom Sloboth third after a 14 lap run on a flat tire. Bob Ward won the trophy dash last week and faced a severe roll in the feature. Bill Hagen, driving Benson's No. 84, placed third in a Des Moines heat, first in the Trophy Dash and second in the feature at Kessell Speedway.

Vet Practice Change In Anita Iowa Sees Weimer Exit

Dr E D Weimer sells his stake in the Weimer and Osen veterinary practice to Dr James Osen after 35 years as a veterin arian. Weimer arrived in Anita in 1984 and plans for travel while Osen continues the clinic with help from Gene Petersen returning from ROTC camp before school starts.

The West Iowa Telephone Company hosted its annual employee picnic at Mill Creek State Park near Paulina in Northwest Iowa on Saturday July 28. Pageant Plans Big Atlantic County Fair Parade

Plans are underway for Progress on Parade a pageant written by Mrs Alfred Jensen to be held Thursday August 16 on Community Day at 8:00 P.M. at Atlantic High School Football Field. Local firms sponsor floats and 4‑H clubs from the county display American history scenes with a girls 4‑H chorus and a 4‑H band directed by Harold Taylor and Ralph Peer. Public invited.

Anita Society Horse Show Draws 2000 Fans

The Anita Society and Anita Saddle Club hosted a Sunday horse show with about 2,000 attendees enjoying ideal weather. Organized seating and smooth classes led to a timely show. numerous riders from Altoona, Creston, Carroll, Corning, Sac City and other towns competed across pony, harness, saddle and harness divisions with many winners named for each class.
