Sheriff profits from sale costs were blamed for tax and eviction burdens, while residents debate replacing commissions with buyer-paid fees. Local officials note the plan shifts costs to the public and favor a reform.

New State Law Regulates Truck and Bus Lines

A new motor vehicle freight and bus law passed by the last general assembly becomes effective and requires operators of for hire freight and passenger buses to hold regular franchises issued by the railroad commission. The rules for operation, route maps, and charge schedules apply as with railroads, with license fees apportioned to counties and road funds. The measure treats truck and bus lines as common carriers to fund road upkeep and impose liability safeguards. Local notes cover community events and visits, including residents in Des Moines, Atlantic, Grinnell, and Omaha, and a center social in Benton Center with fair booth planning and a Boy Scout fife and drum corps in Eagle Grove.
