Fifty years ago Roy Lantz came back from Kansas City where he earned a veterinary college degree. Wilbur Heckman sustained a severe left eye injury while working as a carpenter. An Omaha eye specialist believes the eye can be saved.

Best date to plant corn Apr 25 boosts yields
Research from Iowa and Kentucky shows planting full season hybrids two to three weeks earlier than old rules can raise yields by about 40 bushels per acre. Apr 25 appears optimal, with yields dropping after May 12 to 15 and stalk lodging increasing. Farmers are advised to plant late April with high population of robust hybrids.
