The last meeting of the season of the Jolly Dozen club was held Thursday afternoon with Mrs. Harry Huff northeast of Anita and one guest, Mrs. Kenneth Pierce, present. A contest by Mrs. Elmer Scholl was won by Mrs. Vern Duthie.
Mr and Mrs Ben Broderson hosted the pinochle group at the homes of Mr and Mrs Robert Wilson last Saturday evening. Four tables competed with Forest Wilson and Mrs Robert Smith of Atlantic posting high score while Carl Moore and Mrs Henneberg were low scorers. Supper followed at a late hour.
Dixie Shuemaker was surprised Monday after school by her second grade classmates and teacher at her home. She recently broke her arm while playing in her yard and could not attend school. Mrs. Leitha Coe assisted by Miss Merrick served refreshments.
Mrs. Clara Pearson hosted the Mutual Benefit club with two guests Mrs. Hannah Parrott and Miss LaVonne Crow. Mrs. Harlan Gittins won the contest. Mrs. Oliver Pierce will host on May 2.
The Helping Hand Club met at Mrs. Lyle Scholl's southeast of Anita with 22 members and one guest Mrs Will Hamann of Atlantic. Members packed a box for a doctor and his Holland family and have enough items for a second box. Mrs John Mehlmann won a contest and Mrs Clyde Pollock will host on May 2.
Paramount presents Fred MacMurray in Murder He Says arriving May 1 at the Anita Theatre. The plot casts MacMurray as a poll taker testing public opinion in a remote backwoods town where he encounters the feuding Fleagles family. The film is billed as a top laugh getter.
Not April Fool Ex-Mayor Henry Perkins of Leon thought the two beautifully wrapped gifts left at city hall were a prank. On April 2 he opened them to find a Reynolds pen from the City Council and a feather billfold from city employees.
