In 1673 Captain Wood sent James Needham and Gabriel Arthur to trade with the Cherokees. Needham was murdered by Occaneechi. Arthur, captured by Shawnees, then freed and returned toward Fort Henry with 18 Cherokee traders. Priber arrived in Great Tellico in 1736, won Cherokee trust, crowned Moytoy emperor, was later captured by English authorities.
