Gypsies from across the nation gathered on a hillside awaiting doomsday as the prophecy said May 4 1910 would mark the end of the world according to Hulley’s Canes and other foretellers.
Iowa State Education Association Library Service bookmobile will stop in Griswold on Thursday April 10 inviting teachers and librarians to view 1 790 titles. Adair unit to sponsor Hed Cross Bloodmobile in Adair April 14 seeking 1 2 donors. Local recreation funding approved in Lena and town bands planned as Bangham school closes term with a community quilt gift.
Anita Iowa clerks office reports town council regular session with Mayor Dement and councilmen Gill Johnson Larsen Miller present. Absent Dorsey. Minutes approved. Treasurer's report read and approved. Bills allowed as read. General Fund.
The board of education will elect teachers for the ensuing year at their regular meeting in April. About 100 applications have been received for positions across the various departments.
Miss Lillian Mardesen and Mr Carl Shultz married last Wednesday at the Lutheran parsonage in Harlan with Rev. Laurits Pedersen officiating. Attendants were Mike Mardesen and Viola Mardesen, the bride’s siblings. Nearby, the American Legion Auxiliary completed a notable community service project for Anita.
A tea at Mrs G. M. DeCamp’s home preceded an evening piano benefit at the high school auditorium with 25 cent advance tickets. Mrs Floyd Dement presented the piano gift and Supt. C. V. Garlock accepted it for the school. Gerald Bell and wife of Des Moines visited relatives, including Anderson Bell and wife. Other local students from the University of Iowa returned home for Easter.
