Johnson's son made a desperate attempt to cut his throat with a knife on or near the Johnson home north of Anita. He was found semi conscious, clothing soaked with blood, and the wound nearly severed the windpipe. Dr Camp treated him at the Johnson residence. prognosis uncertain due to possible complications.
Notice from Carl Carson offering Spring suits at a cent discount through April 25. A separate legal notice from Andrew Schwab in Anita Iowa dated 1908 states he will not be usable for his son William’s debts after that date.
On Wednesday March 24 at the Parsonage in Atlantic Charles Croxton son of Mr. and Mrs. W T Croxton married Mary Hardersen daughter of Mrs Thos Harderson Rev performed ceremony. A bounteous wedding meal followed at the home of the Croxtons with a reception later. Guests included L N Pierce John Pierce Rexroude J W Beaver Hettinisses Vera Beaver Rena Taylor Ruth Taylor Laura Pierce Arthur Beaver and others.
John McGrain, a longtime resident of Stillwater Oklahoma, died at home on March 29 aged 78 after a long illness. Born in 1829 in Lafayette County Indiana he later mined in California and Australia before settling in Oklahoma. He was married in Australia to Eana Rollins and is remembered as a good, faithful man with strong Masonic ties. Funeral services were held at his Stillwater home with Masonic honors.

Ralph Anderson returns to Anita, signs with A H Steinmetz. Rev Chas Lang returns from conference, to Abbott, Iowa, for next year at higher salary. Geo P Thiele visits Anita, buys harness, plans spring work. Death of Richard Barry near Grant, Iowa. Q W Van Slyke and wife return from Fort Collins, Colorado after Dr J C Van Slyke surgery and amputation recovery. John Pine and wife move from Audubon to Anita, occupy F B E Carter property. son to stay on farm. Welcome to Mr and Mrs Pine to Anita. A school teacher’s note about astigmatism prompts a father’s reply: I’ve wholloped him tonight.
Anita High School emerged victorious in a declamatory contest against Adair High School held in Adair last Friday. Winners included Geneva Marsh Adair and James Carey Anita in oratorical and dramatic categories with supporting musical performances by local students.
At the Anita Board of Education meeting Ed L Newton was elected president for the coming year. The board adjourned to Saturday evening to finish unfinished business.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Preston slipped and struck his head causing spasms. Dr. H. E. Campbell, nearby at a neighbor’s house, provided prompt care and reported the child's condition greatly improved.
Through attorney T B Swan L W Wheatley sues Cass County Farmers Mutual Fire Insurance Association seeking 600 on a policy. The dispute stems from an acetylene explosion at Wheatley’s Northtown home that destroyed his house. He previously sued for insurance but was dismissed after a Supreme Court ruling that an explosion is not a fire. He now claims a new decision allows fire coverage under similar circumstances and the case is filed for the April term.
Fort Morgan Colorado March 27 1909. Sherm receives a money order for 1.50 to renew a Trip-UNE subscription. The writer notes a hard rain and two snows since plowing began, snow in the mountains, and a wet ground. Hester L Garver Parker born Cincinnati May 3 1838 died at her home in South Anita Iowa April 28 1909 aged 70 years 10 months 16 days. She moved with parents to Streator Illinois married John A Parker December 24 1854 moved to Cass County Iowa 1830. Survived by five of nine children A C Godanour W T Parker G W Parker Mrs Frank Sigler Anita and Mrs Lofa Marsh McLean Nebraska. Interment Evergreen Cemetery. Married life noted as early settler and M E Church member.
A church program listing the crucifixion and resurrection items and hymns performed next Sunday evening at 8:00 o clock. It includes works titled The Crucifixion Organ Voluntary Gethsemane Christ in Gethsemane The Christ Who Died Christ Is Risen Ascension and benediction with participation by Mrs Lowell and the congregation.
