Omaha Contest Chooses Lathrop Student for Music Festival

Eugene Palm son of Mia Palm and Milo Buckley of Omaha was chosen from Lathrop junior high among 30 Omaha entrants to perform at the Omaha ability elementary junior high music festival March 25 in the new civic auditorium. He sang with mixed and boys choruses as part of a group of 1,708 seventh and eighth graders from 50 public schools statewide. He is a grandson of Mr and Mrs Harry Phippen of Anita and studied there before moving to Omaha.

Teen Age Drivers Club Formed at Anita High School

The first meeting for the Teen-Age Drivers Club was held Thursday March 4 in the Anita High School music room. Ted Phillips Eric Gsen and Russell Eden outlined activities from other clubs. Thirty three attendees joined the effort and a nominating committee was named to pick officers for the next meeting.

Kickoff Breakfast Saturday For Scouts Fund Drive

The Friends of Scouting fund drive kicks off with a Saturday breakfast at MeIn tire's Cafe. Lewis Rhode chairs, Majors Harvey McDaniel and Ted Philips lead captains Harland Hester Virgil Jensen Goya Sims and Tuenis Tait Kermit Hher hart Leland Stoe. Additional workers will join to reach noon Tuesday. The drive funds scouting across the area, aiding communities with limited contributions. In juvenile courts and schools, Anita Scouts are backed by the Anita Lions Club. Nome on Leave Teed Sgt and Mrs John T Matlin and four children visit from Bld Ola. Robert Budd on 12 day leave visits parents after training. Dallas Shaken on leave from San Diego visits parents.

Merchants offer 500 free gifts and four grand prizes including two silver eggs. Main Street shops promise prizes, bargains, and refreshments as part of a community Easter celebration.

Roy Kloppenburg 45 dies at Stil hospital Dex Moines after a head ailment. Funeral services Wednesday at 2 PM at Franklin Lutheran Church. MCWILLIAMS TO SPEAK ON CATTLE FEEDING HERE TONIGHT

Cattle feeders will hear about Stilbestrol hormone use and other feeding developments at the farm operators meeting at the Anlt. High School Auditorium Thursday evening. Richard McWilliams of Iowa State College will lead discussions and a Q A session. He directs cattle feeding tests at Castanea and Clarinda and will discuss forage, roughage, and other feeding practices. A local group will provide refreshments. the public is invited.

Easter Services Planned Across Anita Churches

A schedule of Holy Week events across Anita churches notes Union services Tuesday and Sunday for three churches. St Marys and St Josephs Catholic churches list Masses Confessions and Adoration, with Stations of the Cross and Easter Sunday Mass. Holy Cross Lutheran observes Maundy Thursday and Easter Sunday Communion. Several congregations including North Massena Baptist, Community Bible, and Evangelical groups prepare sunrise services, special music, and sermons on themes of resurrection and the Last Supper. Union services and interchurch events feature pastors from Congregational, Methodist, and Christian churches with candlelight and communion observances.

AHS Musicians Sweep Panora Contest With Four Firsts

Anita high school musicians won four firsts eight seconds at the Panora state contest. Twelve entries from the district earned top ratings among 25 Southwest schools. No. 1 winners included Tom Sevi and the jazz group led by Janet Taylor Meredith Steele Janet Jewett Rosemary Pearson and Colleen Whetstone. No. 2 winners included the aids sextette and several quartets with students Wanda Wilton Karen Viner Naomi Jensen and others. Rewards include pins medals and bronze plaques. A preliminary contest returns next May with contests at the same venue.

Anita Cub Scouts to Appear on KMTV Monday Afternoon

Anita cub scouts will appear on Run ty's program next Monday at 4 o'clock over KMTV Channel 3 Omaha. Eighteen boys belong to the Cubs and most plan to make the trip to Omaha with three cars and chaperones Mrs John Rasmuysson Mr and Mrs Clfford Vries and Mrs Harvey Hietuhee. Cowan Arrives in Antia After Overseas Service

Mr. Alle Ki Cowan arrived in Antia this week after sixteen months of overseas duty in Korea and Japan. He plans to be joined by his wife and child by May 1 and then depart for a new assignment at Vrouke Jey Weld, Mabiin, Ala. Mrs James Pottoy was admitted to Atlantic Memorial hospital Monday for treatment after suffering a head and shoulder injury at home Wednesday.
