Vernon Brown of the Skelley Ot family purchased the remaining portion of the property and will occupy it with his family as of April 10.
The school board awarded contracts to teachers and set a return deadline of April 15. Supt D Littell was elected last year for a three year term.
Anita Grade School launches a marble tournament for grades 3 4 6 6 with two classes BR for 3 4 5 and A for 6 7. Playoffs begin April 18 after two weeks of practice. grand champions announced in each class. Volunteers coordinate junior staff. trophies ribbons and medals awarded. grand finals April 27. parents invited to watch.
Mr and Mrs A R Kohl come home Friday afternoon after weeks in Texas and a coast drive to Florida. They traveled with Dr and Mrs C E Harry of Pasadena California who are former Anita residents. The Harrys stayed in California. Wayne Biggs of the U S Navy visited his parents Mr and Mrs Ralph Bigg over the weekend. Wayne will be stationed at Annapolis Maryland after completing schooling in Memphis Tennessee.
Mr and Mrs Fred Scholl returned to their Anita area home after nearly four weeks at Excelsior Springs where Mr Scholl underwent surgery. He is recuperating at home as a hospital statement described the recovery as improving. Rural Cess county schools join the nationwide Easter Seal drive to aid crippled children. Teachers prepare Easter seal packets for pupils distributing them before vacation. students earning merit badges receive a metal Easter bunny to show their support for handicapped peers.
Last Friday Mr and Mrs Albert Van Vleet of Fontanelle visited Mr and Mrs Wilbur Matthews in Anita. Pastor W La Roy Anderson attended the Moody Bible Institute alumni gathering at Grandview Park Baptist Church Des Moines with Dr P B Fitzwater as main speaker and former students from 1898. Harold Barber accompanied the Pastor to the event.
Fishing hunting and combination licenses have been mailed to more than 1,500 license sellers for the 1949 season. Licenses run April 1, 1949 to April 1, 1950 and may be bought at county recorder offices conservation officers and many sport stores banks and boat liveries. Resident licenses cost 1.60 each and combination licenses 2.50. A Des Moines hospital case and sudden illness are noted in a brief local item attached to the license notice.

Jimmy Durante headlines the new Technicolor musical On An Island With You at the Anita Theatre opening April 10. Durante, lauded as the funniest man on screen, stars in a film within a film and performs comic numbers such as Taking Miss Mary to the Ball and I’ll Do the Strut Away alongside Esther Williams and Peter Lawford in Joe Pasternak’s production.

A birthday party was held last Saturday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Chinn for Richard Wilson on his fifth birthday. About sixteen children attended with games, cake, and lunch. Attending were his mother Mrs. Forest Wilson and several grandmothers including Mrs. Robert Wilson Mrs. Goldie Wilson Mrs. Max Denney and Mrs. Dorothy Woodruff.
Charles Barber and wife of Anita marked their 61st wedding anniversary on Wednesday March 30. Their home was filled with congratulatory cards flowers and calls from their children as well wishers noted their long years together and steady devotion.
Mrs. Bert Johnson hosted the Tuesday pinochle club with guests Mrs. Lawrence Hofmeister Mrs. Frank Kramer and Mrs. Fred Kuehn. Mrs. Francis Smith won high score and Mrs. Johnson held top score. Lunch was served.
