Cass County learns its Reconstruction Finance Corporation loan of 6255 will fund relief for destitute families. 2215 covers March pay, 4040 covers fuel and food purchases. funds tracked via county overseer of the poor with workers paid for labor. Dr Getz resigns from relief committee.

Dramatic club presents The Cross on Sunday evening

The fic Club will present a Sunday evening drama titled The Cross at 8:00 pm, under Mrs. P. T. Williams at Congregational church. Longtime resident John W. Rork dies at 71

John W. Rork aged 71 died of a heart attack at his home northeast of Anita Iowa on March 29 1983. He was born March 22 1912 in Douglas County Illinois and lived in Keitheburg and Anita areas. Survived by wife Ella died 1919 three children two grandchildren and a brother. Funeral at Church of Christ conducted by Rev M J Rarick with Evergreen cemetery burial. Music by Mrs H E Campbell et al. Pallbearers listed.

Court House Walls and Tower Torn Down at Atlantic

Old court house walls and tower in Atlantic, damaged by fire a year ago, were razed by a crew led by W. E. Wise under supervision of H. G. Armentrout and G. H. Allen. Bid from a Des Moines contractor was $3,600 but rejected as high. $300 cost with labor paid in scrip. Bricks will be reused or sold, broken brick to pave a road to the county farm. J. W. Long of Des Moines visiting. George Hosfield, 81, died near Beaconsfield from heart trouble. survived by wife and three children.

County Spelling Contest Set For Saturday At Jackson School

Cass county superintendent Miss Georgia Byrne heralds a county spelling contest at Jackson School Atlantic on April 8 starting nine in the morning. Ray Eaton of Omaha will oversee the event with county winners advancing to inter state and state contests in Des Moines and Omaha. Betty Burns and Ruth Champion are among representatives noted. a free educational film Health Happiness and Hoga will screen at Rialto Theatre 1:30 pm Thursday with prizes for adult farmers.

Romantic figures of gold rush in Silver Dollar film

First National’s Silver Dollar plays at Rialto Saturday and Sunday. Edward G Robinson stars as Yates Martin the Silver King, with Bebe Daniels and Aline MacMahon in key roles. The cast includes Jobyna Rowland DeWitt Jennings Robert Warwick Russell Simpson Harry Holman and Charles Middleton. The film adapts David Karener’s novel about Colorado mining camps during the great silver strike. Mayor appoints water trustees in Anita

George F. Shaffer Carl H. Miller and William T. Biggs were named water works trustees by Mayor C E Harry after a special election 137 to 21 approved moving control to a board. Shaffer and Miller resigning council seats were filled by H L Bell and A R Kohl who were sworn in.

Debtor Relief Law Upheld to Hearing at Ottumwa

Ottumwa April 5 Judge R W Smith sustained the Iowa emergency debtors relief act in a case where mortgage holders sought foreclosure on Ottumwa city parcels The order preserves court custody of property until March 1 1936 while title remains with the holder Attorneys warned they will seek Iowa Supreme Court review in September The judge called the act remedial and not inherently unconstitutional though some doubt remains and continuances were granted pending further consideration The cases attract close attention from debtors creditors and lawyers statewide
