At the biennial Anita town election held in the town hall, 397 votes were cast, well below two years ago. Voters elected a mayor and the first five councilmen for the coming two years, with Homer Kirkham listed among mayoral contenders and Godfrey Miller among council candidates.
A pep meeting is planned for Sunday afternoon at 3 30 at the M E church. The program features Music by the Christian Church Junior Choir Prayer Rev J W Ferner piano duets by Mrs I H Sheeler and Mrs T B Nichols papers by Mrs Phoebe Tharnish and Miss Emma Wade quartette with Ruth Herriman Ida Wade Maurice and James Mc Eldowney vocal and piano solos by Laverne Bontrager Donna Dorsey Enid and Marion Wagner and remarks and benediction by Rev B W McEldowney.
The Nation al Grain Journal notes Fontanelle Iowa based Farmers' Cooperative Elevator Co. is in excellent condition with a net gain over $6,000 for the year and $50 shares now valued at $58. Sales of feed coal and grain topped $250,000. H McDermott will lead the business for another year. Foreman John Fullerton retained and dividend recently paid at eight percent. A collie lost in Iowa followed his owner’s car to Wolcott Indiana then returned to Silverton Oregon. He crossed seven states nearly 3000 miles, arriving February 14 exhausted but safe. Oregon Humane Society plans to honor him with a silver medal.
Iowa State College extension expert Donald Porter says treating seed potatoes against scab black scarf black leg and stem end rot is inexpensive and simple. The hot formaldehyde method uses two pints of 40 percent formaldehyde in 30 gallons water at 118 to 122 degrees F. seed stays soaked two minutes then covered one hour. A new legume Dalea Alopecuroi des, also called by its first name, is being developed in Towa. Trials from September 1922 on land previously used for winter wheat show about 14 tons of green manure per acre when plowed under, under favorable conditions.
Legionnaires from the Ninth district prepare for the annual convention to be held April 8 in Stuart Iowa. Frank B Spence district commander will speak. Train No 7 will stop to allow passengers to join the full program. Activities include registration meetings addresses banquets and a dance with music by Dave Rubinson's Band.
Tonight at 9:00 PM listeners can hear a Walnut Grove sponsored program from Atlantic Iowa on KFLZ the Atlantic Automobile Co station. The Walnut Grove Orchestra and local talent perform a varied program including solos and quartets with pieces like Parade of the Wooden Soldiers Foolish Questions My Baby and The Walnut Grove Love Song among others.
Iowa State College hosts a four day radio short course April 14 to 18 where amateurs build and test a receiving set under the guidance of experts from the trades and industries department. Courses use a large shop with individual benches. students supply their own apparatus and may follow blueprints or design their own. Registration urged by D C Faber, no fee. The event runs ahead of the Iowa Radio convention on April 18 and 19.
E S Holton and wife visited Des Moines Friday. Cass county clerk calls executors administrators guardians and trustees to file full returns by June 9 with penalties for noncompliance. Ada M Joy sues Howard T Joy for divorce citing drunkenness and cruelty, seeks custody of two daughters and 2400 alimony at 20 monthly for ten years. E S Holton represents plaintiff.
