Mr. and Mrs. William J. Wagner longtime residents of Atlantic celebrate their Golden Wedding Anniversary with an open house on Tuesday April 4 at their home in Atlantic. Friends and family attended as the couple recalled fifty years of marriage.
The wedding of Miss Bade Rowland to William Wagner took place April 6 1898 at her mother's home north of Adair and was followed by open house. The couple later lived in Danby Iowa Bridgewater and Anita where Wagner ran a blacksmith shop and later an oil and garage business. They have four daughters and six sons with one son Wayne who died in 1938. both are longtime Congregational church members and active in community affairs.
Mrs. Gilbert Wehrman of Anita is named chairman of the Red Cross drive in Grant township. Weather and road conditions delayed the drive. Soliciters named for each school district include Leslie Miner No 1 Herbert Cooley No 2 Carsten Hennebers No 3 Mr and Mrs Clarence Oxen No 4 Mr and Mrs Henry Kuehn No 6 Mr and Mrs Lyman Wahlert No 7 and Dallas Davis No 9.
Aide Layvland and Mr Warriss of Atta wed on Easter Sunday at 4:00 PM in the home of Mrs Lester Anderson. Rev. J B Wright of Federated Church officiated in a double ring ceremony. Bride wore beige tweed with yellow roses, attendant wore black, best man was Byron Harris. Couple to Des Moines trip then reside at Chastain home East Mato Beret. Bride worked as a proofreader for Atlantic News before marriage and at Batter Service station since WWI era.
The town elected Bernard Lege as mayor with Citizens ticket winning council seats. W B Motlen elected treasurer and Wv? Crawford chosen for park commission. Anita and other tickets trailed. New mayor and council members will take oath at the next town council meeting on April 6.
Mrs Naomi Richter Lowry formerly of Kahoa Missouri is hospitalized in University hospital Town City Iowa with a paralyzed hip and will wear a cast for several months. Relatives Floyd Dement, James Lowry in Town City and others plan visits while Mrs Lowry’s family travels through Texas and Old Mexico on a joint trip.
The PTA at Grant No 2 held a Wednesday night gathering at the school house with 86 in attendance. Mrs Elton Christen and Mrs Andrew Jessen directed the program and a farewell family dinner party concluded the evening at the home of Mr and Mrs.
Herman Bukin and family have moved from Maple Street to a farm they purchased east of Anita. Dell Ray and his family will relocate to the Bukin home, which they bought earlier, as part of the moving plan.
Mr and Mrs Ray Neigls celebrate their anniversary with fellow guests and family in Des Moines. A community lunch followed at the Bell home as several relatives and friends joined the event. The report notes residence moves for Gerald Bell and others and mentions staff roles and a pending meeting in Des Moines.
The Reed household hosted a Sunday dinner with Mr and Mrs Beholl and their sons and families, including mention of Mr Raymond Madeon and Mrs Hancock. Other guests named included Willam Beads and Mr Chadwick and family of Anna, plus the Window family.
Anita High School announced its representation at a municipal contest in Audubon. Vocalists Woodruff, Maureen Moore, and Dean Karns perform as The Lord's Prayer, The Sun Rise and You, and Polish Dates. Four students train under Miss Scott, with support from all.
Dr and Mrs Adair hosted an Easter dinner party featuring close friends and family. The gathering included social chatter and light entertainment as attendees enjoyed the holiday in a warm, intimate setting.
The Harber and Barber families marked their Golden Wedding with a Sunday dinner and party at the Barber home in Anita. More than 70 greeting cards and many gifts arrived while friends from Omaha Council Bluffs Griswold Guthrie Center Bagley and Grinnell joined relatives and neighbors despite bad weather. A birthday celebratory note accompanied the anniversary with four birthdays observed during the week.
A lively evening event drew a hearty crowd with verbal toasts and a notable dessert finale. Attendees reported a warm atmosphere and a distinctive pi6 ada close that capped the night.
Mr and Mrs William A Linfor announce engagement of Miss Linfor Antoun to Harry R Burneas. Burneas is son of Mr and Mrs Altrea Burgets of Clearview Drive Des Moines. The couple plan marriage in early fall.
Mr and Mrs Hiram G Highley longtime Anita couple celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary. Married at Durant in April they moved to Anita in 1922 and have resided there since. Both in poor health Mrs Highley remains active with regular trips to Anita.
Mrs Myrtle Nelson was surprised by cards gifts and letters from loved ones and friends on her 72nd birthday. She also received visitors to brighten the day.
The kite contest at the ball park south of the Depot drew a well attended crowd on a windy day. Winners included Roger Rathman in multiple stick kite categories and George Legg in triangle box events. Prizes totaling over $20 were donated by local merchants.
The United States Civil Service Commission announced a substitute clerk examination in Anita Town has not drawn enough applicants. Applications will be accepted until close of business April 21, 1948. Full information and forms are available from the Civil Service Secretary at the Anita Post Office.
