A fire yesterday afternoon destroyed the second floor and garret of Walter Hook’s residence but quick work by the fire department and neighbors saved the first floor contents. Sparks from a chimney hole likely started the blaze. the house, insured with Farmers of Cedar Rapids, will have loss paid. W Hook works as special agent and adjuster. Charlie arrived to handle settlement.

Bootlegging raid nets liquor and arrest in Atlantic
A room over the Unique Theatre in Atlantic was raided by Marshal McKee and deputies. Fifty nine pints of liquor were seized. C S Erb was arrested and charged with maintaining a liquor nuisance. He pled guilty before Judge J B Roeckafellow and was fined 300 plus costs or 100 days in jail. It is believed he may obtain aid to pay the fine, avoiding jail. Atlantic officials continue efforts against bootlegging.
