Elizabeth May Hill widow of John S. Hill dies at 94

Elizabeth May Hill aged 94 widow of John S. Hill died at her home in Exira on a Saturday morning after a brief illness. She was a pioneer of Iowa and Audubon County born March 31 1834 in Bedford County Pennsylvania. Funeral held at the Christian church in Extra with Rev. Steven B. Moore officiating. Interment in Extra cemetery. She is survived by two sons and two daughters, twelve grandchildren and thirty-five great grandchildren.

Memorial Day Exercises at Atlantic Cemetery 1928

Memorial Day services will be held at Atlantic Cemetery on May 30 1928 at 9:00 AM. Officers will assign graves, open with address and orders, read Gettysburg Address, and recite My Country Tis of Thee. The program includes prayers, songs, flowers, a firing squad, taps and benediction.

Snakes Arrive in Home as Rattler Strikes Panic

Mrs Ross Kohl encountered a large rattlesnake on basement stairs in North Geneva Avenue. She locked the door and alerted her husband who rushed home from the store and killed the snake. The incident warns about increasing rattlesnake sightings in the area.

Local Health Updates From Anita Gardiner and Pratt

W. D. Pratt remains confined at home after a year of afflictions and is reported no better. In Anita, Mrs. C. W. Crandall fell from a stool, injuring a dislocated and bruised right shoulder and was taken to Dr. H. E. Campbell hospital where X rays showed complex conditions. The injury will require several weeks to heal.

Announcement of the marriage of Miss Wenonah Forshay of this city to Bys ton McNiel of Atlantic. The ceremony was March 1928 at the Presbyterian church in Newton Iowa with the officiating resident pastor. The bride, Anita high school graduate, and the groom, a prominent farmer, will receive best wishes from numerous friends.

Grinnell Woman Visits Anita Friends After Memorial Day

Mrs H T Chapin of Grinnell Iowa arrived in Anita Wednesday evening and will stay until after Memorial Day visiting friends. Chris Baier a well known Anita farmer remains in ill health. A well on Dr L R Eller farm southeast of Anita provides abundant water and proves a good investment. Dr R J Montgomery supervisor of religious education Grinnell will preach at 11 am and hold a 230 pm conference for church workers and friends. Everyone is invited.

Patriotic Program At Congregational Church

Last Sunday the Congregational church held a patriotic program replacing the morning service. The choir performed special music, a Poppy poem read by Mrs. Ella Biggs, The Red White and Blue sung by A B Stone, followed by a stirring sermon by Rev Miss Leora Miars. Members of the Grand Army of the Republic the American Legion and Auxiliary attended, along with visitors.

N P Nielsen of Los Angeles arrived in Avoca last week and will make his future home here. He is a contractor and builder who worked fifteen years in Anita before moving to California five and a half years ago. He learned carpentry in the old country and can also prepare blue prints and specifications.

Jones and family visit Anita on weekend trip

Jesse N. Jones former Cass county treasurer and current custodian of the state Capitol building and grounds in Des Moines paused in Anita Saturday afternoon en route to Griswold to visit relatives and friends. He was accompanied by Mia Jones and their daughter Caroline.
