A letter from Charles Eble in Vega, South Dakota, recalls a mighty cold blizzard and notes they are not homesick. He asks Sherm to send the RECORD, stating it is all they miss.
Aura Williamson writes from Weldon that they are well after a fine winter with ample feed and good crops last year. She mentions forty acres of wheat, invites friends to visit, and notes plans to visit Anita if spring work delays.
Everett J Palmer writes from France in 1916 describing the 33nd Division attached to the 8th Division near Gomdrecourt, mentions barracks at Roziers, Y M C A shows, and multiple fronts including Chateau Thierry and Meuse. He notes fellow soldiers like Earl Caddock and the 127th A E muster and ends with a light remark on wartime home news and pic show culture.
Wiota Iowa holds a special election on April 7 1919 at Town Hall from 8 am to 7 pm to decide on erecting a municipal electric light and power plant and issuing bonds up to 5000 dollars to fund the project. Mayor Co W McDermott signs the proclamation under Iowa code provisions.
Township trustees warn residents that obstructing ditch water along public highways is illegal and will be strictly enforced. Obstructions must be removed or cleared at once to avoid costs. Also reports on Howard Millhollin’s return from Miami, Florida, and Des Moines resident R H Campbell visiting Anita-area farms and old friends in the community.
Cass County Iowa Board of Supervisors invites bids for reinforced concrete culvert pipe per Iowa State Highway Commission specs. Bids due April 7 1919 at the county auditor in Atlantic with 5 percent certified check and bond for half the contract. Items listed with quantities delivered F O B any Cass County station by May 15 1919. Board may reject any or all bids. March 25 1919 C E Kringle County Auditor
The Cass county Iowa Board of Supervisors invites sealed bids for bridge lumber per Iowa State Highway Commission specs. Bids due 10 A M April 7 1919 to the County Auditor Atlantic Iowa. 5 percent certified check and bond equal to half the contract required. Delivery F O B Wiota Iowa by July 15 1919 for specified surfaced lumber.
