A Fort Collins Colorado man has just fallen heir to an estate from an old aunt valued at 4 000 000 dollars. The windfall would be a life changing sum for many, and the beneficiary expresses no complaint about the unexpected legacy.
A. M. Saunders is in the M. E. hospital at Omaha after an operation to remove a small steel fragment from his eye. The speck caused pain and may affect his vision. he must stay in a dark room for several weeks to recover.
Rev. H. J. Wilkins pastor of the Congregational church is on his regular three week vacation with no services. He travels to Sylvania Ohio for a week with his brother and plans to preach in Strongville Ohio on Sunday July 19 at the church where he formerly served.
Mrs. Bessie M Lowell arrives with her capable grandson Sherm F Jr from Boone Iowa to visit Dad and Grand Dad Myers of the Record for several weeks. The youth displays competence and leadership in chores like milking and keeps pace with his elders.
Chas Heck, son of Mr and Mrs John Heck Sr, is seriously ill at his parents home north of Anita with symptoms resembling poison after attending a celebration at Extra. Doctors report he has been unconscious since yesterday, attributed to tainted meat in a sandwich.

C O Gipple prominent local farmer now holds the agency for The Des Moines Silo and has a full advertisement in the Record. He urges farmers and stock raisers to read it and will explain all merits and details to ensure satisfaction.
John Nichols 53 was killed when he was trapped under a mine cage at Phildia. P R Nichols and wife attended his funeral in Woodard Iowa where Obedience Lodge 580 Masons conducted services. He leaves a wife six children and was regarded as a good man and citizen by the community.
A letter from the physician in charge of the hospital for the insane at Glorinda reports Martin Petty, taken there two weeks ago, remains in about the same condition with little hope for improvement and a possible imminent death due to serious heart trouble.
A man described as filled with a desire to kill appears in Blue Island Illinois and brutally murders an old man his wife daughter and granddaughter in their beds. Suspicions fall on a son in law who vanished. Similar killings occurred two years ago in Villisca.
After the town crowd dispersed Saturday, AmOS Shipman Jones Worthing and John Houck persisted in starting trouble, keeping the disturbance alive well into the evening.
An Atlantic bootlegger pleaded guilty on Monday in Judge Rockafellow’s court. He was fined 150 dollars plus costs and, lacking cash to liquidate, will receive free board and lodging from the county for fifty days.
The Commercial Club of Omaha invites Iowa editors to visit Omaha and South Omaha for a day of entertainment on Monday July 20. In the evening visiting editors will be guests of Ak-Sar-Ben for further festivities.

E. W. Blakesley, former Anita citizen, sold his 30 acre apple orchard adjoining Shawhan on the south to N. J. Garman for 16400. The six, five and three year old trees form a strong young orchard on the beach near Payette.
Peter K Voorhees closed a real estate deal Tuesday to own the 5 acre farm of Mrs. Fredericka Johnson located southwest of Anita. The price was 9187.50 dollars or 122.50 per acre. He plans to move by March 1 and engage in farming including hogs and chickens for profit.
Payette Idaho news notes the G W Lattig Ranch storage plant bearing the large black title Anita Orchards. The item highlights a new sign on the ranch property in Payette county with no further details.

At Crystal Lake on July 4 an automobile driven by Frank Smith of Griswold backed onto Elmer Todd who was on the ground behind the car. Todd suffered a broken back and was taken to Lewis hospital in serious condition with possible paralysis if recovery occurs.
Babe Cibert was arrested by a deputy U S Marshal and taken to Council Bluffs for arraignment before Judge Smith McPherson on contempt of court charges. He allegedly failed to promptly remit the balance of a prior fine and to regularly report as required. Letters from the court to Cibert were ignored.
The first Keystone Park open air union meeting drew a large crowd Sunday evening. Rev. Robt. W. Swick led a brief song service, Rev. H. H. King read scripture, and Rev. H. J. Wilkins delivered a strong sermon. The grounds were well seated and lit, inviting all to attend future services.
A large barn on Eli King’s farm burned to the ground Friday night between twelve and one. The origin is unknown with suspicion of arson. Two calves trapped inside could not be saved as the structure neared collapse. Grain hay implements and harness were lost. neighbors aided in saving the dwelling and other buildings. The barn cost about 1500 dollars and carried 700 dollars of insurance.
On a return trip from Sioux City to attend auto races, Otto Wiegand Frank Carter Jr Art Lattig Leon Voorhees and Ross Kohl narrowly escaped a Rock Island train at a poorly visible crossing near Underwood. The car halted on the tracks as the engine passed and two boys leaped out to flee the speeding train. Dutch Wiegan turned white reliving the close call.
