A broad collection of editorials and letters from Iowa papers urges wartime resolve, lampoons pacifists, praises patriotic effort, and critiques politicians. It notes Red Cross fundraising in Shelby, calls for decisive action by Congress, and comments on Iowa land value, Des Moines politics, and national leadership.
The piece warns that rising print paper costs, higher newspaper postage, and a new advertising tax threaten many country papers with closure. It urges unity with Uncle Sam for world peace and preservation of the United States, suggesting Germans in Chicago and elsewhere might lose passports if not aligned.
A collage of local comments on prices, advertising, and politics. The piece mentions costly pork, fig leaf fashion, and the value of advertising, plus snippets about Congress, livestock shipments to Iowa, farmers and travelers, and a speech on public roads by Senator Voorhees. It includes anecdotes about Uncle Peter Biggs, vaudeville reunions in Anita, and Army draft concerns.
