Ministers from Newton churches have joined to install a radio for broadcasting sermons across the country. Rev Paul Becker of the Christian church in Newton, a former Anita boy and former local post office employee, led the broadcast. His wife’s Cumberland relatives heard the sermon clearly by radio phone along with the music.
The anticipated April 1 return of Mr and Mrs Samuel Petty from Tucson Arizona has been delayed by a recent change in their son Clarence B Petty s physical condition. He has been in a government sanatorium for several months and relatives fear for his health but hope for eventual recovery.
Miss Callie Dungan, who taught in South Dakota this past year, has returned to Stuart due to continued illness. Her sister near Redfield will finish out the term for which Dungan was elected as teacher.
Dr. P. T. Williams announces his office will be closed Tuesday May 1 through Thursday May 3 while attending the State Dental meeting. Patients are advised to reschedule appointments as needed.
B. D. Forshay was in Council Bluffs and Omaha on Monday handling business matters.
Mrs Howard Marshall with her husband and baby are staying a week with relatives and friends in Giltner Nebraska as reported in local society notes.
Ralph H. Miller of the Citizens' State Bank traveled to Council Bluffs Monday to handle business in bankruptcy court.
The inaugural twilight league game in Massena featured two local home teams with Ed Wagner scoring the first run, earning honors for the opening highlight of the match.
Sam G. Hansen of Des Moines spent Friday at the Record office, marking his second stoppage in a week due to a heavy storm that rendered auto travel nearly impossible.
Chas. W. Huff stopped in Anita on Thursday while returning to Massena from Des Moines where he has served as a county representative. He chose to press on home promptly, avoiding social visits and delays.
Prof. C. H. Carson, longtime Marengo Iowa school superintendent, holds a state record for 32 years in one post. He refused resignation, then accepted a role as assistant superintendent and normal training critic at the high school. Carson previously led Anita Public Schools in the early 1880s and is tied to Anita residents through his wife, a McKinley descendant.
Roy W. Deeming, longtime head of the mechanical department at the Record, will enter the newspaper business at one of two Iowa towns offering favorable inducements. He has not chosen between the sites yet and will decide soon. Friends express confidence in his ability to succeed.
Cass County gasoline dealers must provide their names and addresses under the new gag tax bill. Secretary of State requests full dealer list to facilitate license issuance and tax compliance. Jesse N. Jones, Cass Co Treasurer, urges immediate cooperation.
A West Main street vacant lot once owned by J. P. Johansen, a former Anita resident, has traded hands after tax sales. The current redeemer faces added sewer tax assessment and an imminent special assessment for paying, making the investment less profitable.
Mrs. Mary Mallory Weimer will live with her daughter, Mrs. H. A. Karns, at the daughter’s home. The arrangement places the elderly relative under family care in the household.

Work on the new service station and rest room being erected on West Main Street by L. R. Goodpasture for O. W. Shaffer and Son is progressing rapidly and will be ready for occupancy soon.
Val Weigand and spouse traveled to Council Bluffs on Sunday to stay a week with daughter Mrs. W. P. Barrett and family and with another daughter Mrs. Jennie Miller and family in Omaha.
During last Thursday’s heavy winds a full front plate glass window in the De. E. Campbell building on Main Street belonging to the Dc. A. Long furniture stock was blown out and shattered. The glass cost between 175 and 200 dollars and was not insured.
Dr J L Hillman president of Simpson College defends student morals saying he would not tolerate cigarette smoking among coeds. He notes high standards at Simpson and rejects reports of widespread tobacco use among female students while condemning such conduct.
A large barn on Chas. E. Faulkner’s farm southeast of Anita burned Thursday afternoon along with hay grain implements and several sows and pigs. A nearby shed was also destroyed. The origin is unknown and the barn was insured for 1200.29 dollars with the Anita Bank Agency. The stock was insured with Forshay Forshay. Rebuilding will start once carpenters and materials are available.
A farmer sought arrest of a neighbor's Sabbath-violating crew. The County Attorney ignored the request, suggesting a local justice of the peace, who was said to be fixing a fence. Plans to contact the Sheriff and a constable failed as others were occupied with chores and games.
Clarence Campbell receives a note from his old-time friend J. B. Bert Callison, once of Lincoln township now in Kansas City Missouri. The letter recalls the family history, the death of Jas C Callison, and that sons George Art and Jesse remain, with Mother Callison living with Bert in Kansas City.
J. H. Trimmer shipped two car loads of finished cattle to the Omaha market on Monday, expanding his sale offerings for the week.
FE Chamberlain has relocated to the farm northwest of Anita that was previously occupied by Arthur Lett.
Martin Brehmer of Lincoln township operates a farm tractor to till twenty five acres of ground per day, highlighting his efficient field work and agricultural practices.
Frank P. Johnston of Guthrie Center, for the securities department of the Iowa Electric Company of Cedar Rapids, was in the city Thursday in the companys interests.
Walter H. Faulkner of Dee Moines was in the city Friday adjusting the fire loss on the farm of A. H. Winder. The blaze damaged hogs calves hay grain implements harness and other property.
The Post Office Department in Washington D C sent notices to all postmasters urging rural route patrons to paint their mail boxes and posts white and to display the resident's name in black letters. The measure aims to aid both regular and substitute carriers and is being widely adopted nationwide.
Charles Henry Whitmore, longtime Anita resident and former teacher, died April 19 1923 in Colorado Springs at age 72 5 29 after a four month illness. He taught in Anita in 1876 and helped build the town. survivors include two daughters in Colorado Springs and several siblings. His body returned to Anita for burial in Evergreen Cemetery after services in Colorado Springs.
