Damages Awarded in Railroad Fatalities Across States
In 1923 C Y Hope was killed and Fred Elder injured in a Chariton Iowa wreck. The railroad paid Mrs Hope 3600 and Elder a lesser sum under Workmen's Compensation. An administrator sued in Steele County Minnesota, where a Minnesota jury awarded 25000 to Mrs Hope and later another jury returned no verdict for Elder 29840.

Eighty Years Old Abe Biggs Birthday Celebration
Uncle Abe Biggs turned eighty with a family gathering at the Biggs home on East Main Street. Most relatives attended including five children and four grandchildren. Frank Biggs of Chicago and LeRoy Biggs of Kansas City were absent. A large family dinner was served by Mother Biggs and daughters. Abe Biggs, born March 30 1844 near Shreve Ohio, married Eliza Gabrielle in Moreland Ohio on January 29 1879. They moved to Cass County Iowa in 1911 and later to Anita. Their children are Frank, W T Biggs, Clara Robison, Sadie Joy, and Ida Biggs. Sunday also marked the fourteenth birthday of granddaughter Gladys Joy.

Dinsmore performed a violin solo and contributed to the prelude processional and postlude, a duet with Miss Niefert, and selections in the offertory.
