Trophies of War Exhibit Arrives in Florence
The 30th Division Special will visit Florence on Thursday May 1st to display war trophies across South Carolina. The train will showcase weapons and equipment used by Allied forces, with a separate tank train not represented. Public access and holidaylike events are planned as veterans and speakers participate.

Fire Destroyed Atlantic Coast Line Freight Depot and 700 Bales Cotton
A. C. L. freight depot at Bennettsville caught fire April 21 burning about 700 bales of cotton eight box cars and parts of the depot. Losses include $4 000 for the depot building $12 000 value for the freight and $100 000 plus for destroyed cotton total estimated loss around $150 000. Fire department saved office records and extra nearby stock including Marlboro Wholesale Grocery and F G Holly.

Death of Mrs J C Bailey in Cedar Creek area
Mrs J C Bailey of the Cedar Creek section died of Brights disease on Monday night April 21. She had been ill for some time and her death shocked the community. Her body was laid to rest at Gourdins Chapel on Wednesday at 8 PM. She leaves five children ten grandchildren and many friends and relatives. She is not dead but sleepeth.
