Mary Webb Evans, a teacher for the Odessa school system, was injured in a collision on Highway 8 near Odessa at about 7:30. She suffered chest injuries, a bruised lip, and other injuries. admitted to the Medical Center Hospital for several days. The incident involved a rear end collision with a dump truck driven by a man who was ahead in a pickup. vehicle damage estimated around $500.
Funeral services were held Saturday at Trinity Baptist Church for six year old Tommie Eugene Dodgns who died from injuries after falling from a tree. He is survived by parents C H Dodgns and three brothers and three sisters. Singleton Funeral Home directed the services with burial in Andrews cemetery.
A formal opening for the new Army Navy store will run today and tomorrow. Located across from the post office the shop is owned by N Harry Smith and operates in five western states. The store stocks men and women and children's clothing shoes Army Navy goods hardware and camping items and will stay open until 9 p m each night.
A Clovis New Mexico firm submitted the low bid on the school s new administration building last Thursday night John C Cornell Inc submitted a base bid of 145 500 from a field of 15 bidders Total bids on the building totaled 199 526 or 50 000 less than estimates The project includes a large staff hall and public meeting area with offices for the business manager tax assessor and collector curriculum director and more Alternates accepted include a poured deck parking area and vinyl tile floor Completion is expected early next school year
The grand jury presented seven recommendations to the Andrews County Commissioners Court after a two day inquiry. It urged a county unit road system with a supervising official, restricted use of county equipment, detailed prepayment invoicing in minutes, separation of personal and county purchases, a perpetual equipment inventory, centralized purchasing, and a formalized supplier inventory process. The report noted no evidence of wrongdoing.
Andrews High School Band won Class AAA first prize of 100 dollars at the Panhandle Plains fair in Lubbock marching before about 50 000 spectators. Drum majorette Dianne Collins received the prize from judge Russell McKiski.
Lions plan Aunt Jemima pancake supper Monday night at the primary cafeteria to raise funds for remodeling the boy scout hut near the old lake site in West Andrews. Sales reached 750 with a goal of 1700. crews will flip pancakes and sausage from 5 30 to 9 00, with Norman Galloway in charge of food supplies and Charlie Carruth supervising the cook crew.
The high school band plans a UF drive plug tonight at the stadium if the public address system cooperates. United Fund chairman Charles Ward says the band will support the drive starting in October and perform its version of Basin Street Blues this evening.
A charter for the newly organized Dale Carnegie club will be presented at a meeting here Saturday night. Carnegie club officials from neighboring cities are expected to attend the meeting at Nix restaurant. Roy Smith, Humble employee at Florey, is president of the new organization.
Ben Wade of Big Spring was arrested and charged with auto theft after a 1955 Chevrolet was stolen from RK O Williams at Cravens Trailer Court. Patrolman Joe Wilson recovered the wrecked car near the stadium site and arrested Wade at a local hotel. He admitted the theft and crash.
A 21 month old girl, Patricia Ricketson, was rushed to Odessa after a peanut lodged in her windpipe during Kiwanis Kids Day in Odessa. Local doctors advised travel for special instruments to remove the object. Singleton's ambulance ferried her to Odessa. Patricia is said to be recuperating rapidly with her mother Mrs. J. E. Ricketson and Mrs. White present.

Andrews county approves a 1957 operating budget of 1 151 886 reflecting a rise from the prior year. The plan bases taxes on 64 200 000 valuation with a 1 54 tax rate per 100 and allocates funds for the jury road and bridge general improvements and road bond sinking.

Stanolind Oil and Gas completes and starts up a sulfur recovery unit at the Midland Farms gasoline plant. First sulfur shipment was sent on September 11, with sour gas from the Grayburg formation and hydrogen sulfide converted to elemental sulfur then shipped molten by truck to a rail siding at Douro, Texas.
Mustang fans may ride a chartered bus to the Andrews Ysleta game by reservations at Barnes Drug due next Tuesday. A minimum of 37 passengers is required to charter the bus. Fare is 10.10 dollars per passenger.
