County Judge Chas W. Roberts and commissioners reviewed three route options for the Andrews Kermit Highway. Engineer Hugh L. Dickson proposed near equal lengths, with about half the road approved to begin at the Andrews Kermit line toward the Parker strip. Landowners will be consulted on the remaining section as plans and right of way are pursued.
Fuller ton Oil Company officials from California toured Andrews Thursday. Judge Roberts guided them through the courthouse and the District Court Room. Visitors included W. W. Valentin e, president. J. R. McMillan, director of production. and Cecil Sweet, district superintendent.
Gen J Watt Pave reports only four of 351 boards asked resignations be accepted. He says boards remain ready to induct men for service as the shooting war ends, noting boards are tired after five years but still standing by their duties and not resigning.
William J. Watkins son of Mr and Mrs Aaron Watkins departed last week for Fort Bliss for induction into the army. Two others accompanied him for physical examinations only.
Mr and Mrs Tom Jobe of Deep Pay Village report their daughter Ellen Irene Jobe returned from Lubbock General Hospital where she was a patient. She is much improved and back home this week.
Mr and Mrs T A Beavers of Seminole Texas announce the birth of daughter Nancy Jean on September 17 weighing six pounds twelve ounces.

Willie Price McLaughlin of Odessa Texas was killed September 20 when a tractor boom struck his head while working on a gas pipeline from Andrews County to Big Spring Howe. He was 29, recently returned from the Pacific and Army discharge. Home in Wynona Oklahoma.
Andrews County Commissioners hear a proposal from Jal leaders and Lea County officials to build a road from Andrews to Jal branching from the Andrews Kirmit road, crossing the Delaware mountains to join the Carlsbad El Paso route. The commission takes the project under advisement while continuing the Andrews Kirmit highway work.
The final War Chest Drive begins October 1 to aid occupational forces abroad in Japan Germany Italy China and the Philippines. Andrews County seeks $1000 quickly and pledges strong local support following a history of generosity in USC Red Cross and Bond Drives.
A box supper will be held in the School auditorium on Thursday night September 27 at 7:30 sponsored by the Methodist church ladies. Everyone is invited to bring a box and attend to raise money for the new church.
Little Jerrie Fitzgerald underwent an appendectomy on Monday September 17. He is improving rapidly and continues to respond well to treatment at home.
The Mustangs prepare for a Saturday afternoon home game against Ward County, aiming to rebound after a 21 to 12 loss at Fort Stockton. Lights were promised for a later game, with the Grand Falls clash originally slated for night.
Texas State Highway Department notifies locals of designating the Andrews to New Mexico state line highway as Ranch Road 87. The section from Fullerton Field to the state line will be hard-surfaced before year end, with three years allotted to extend to Lenorah in Martin county. A remaining twenty mile gap to Big Spring will then be the final stretch.
Ray Porter and Don Folla ell, recent buyers of the Johnny Richards Grocery, plan a remodel using the entire storefront for stock. The project includes plate glass windows and a white stucco front to modernize the building.
Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Fitzgerald received a phone call from their son Russell on Tuesday night, September 18, confirming he is in Washington D C and could be home in two or three days. Russell had been a prisoner of the Japanese in Siam for three years and was recently freed.
Sealed proposals from Andrews County Texas are sought for the construction of flexible base and base reservations on five miles of county roads located twelve miles southwest of Andrews. Bids due by 2:00 PM October 6 1945 with five percent cashiers or certified check. Plans available from Charles W. Roberts county judge or H L Bailey consulting Freeineer. A $10 deposit required per set. County reserves right to reject any or all bids.
Mr. Darel Madison remains hospitalized this week with back and head injury. Mrs. B. C. Sherrard was admitted Monday for major surgery at the same facility.
Andrews residents urged to attend a September 27 meeting at 9 00 p m in the District Courtroom to organize the Andrews Chapter of the American Red Cross and elect officers for the coming year. Midland officials will assist in the setup and chairman H T Wilson calls all to participate. Completion will keep Andrews funds independent from Midland oversight. Remember Thursday night September 27 your Red Cross needs you.
The 1945 tax rolls for Andrews city and Independent school district, along with Andrews County, show higher total valuations than 1944. County totals reach 17 250 000, oil rolls 16 475 330, school roll over 18 000 600, city valuation 342 623, with a stable tax rate of 1.25.

Sugar stamps 36 expires August 31. Stamp 38 becomes valid September 1 through December 31. Meat and fats stamps V2 to KI are valid for 10 points each while Li Mt Ni Pi Q1 become valid Sept 1. V2 to Z2 expire August 31. Shoes Book III stamps 1 2 3 4 with airplane pictures good for shoes indefinitely. Tire inspection requires holders to check tires every six months or 5000 miles, whichever comes first.
