Two prowlers caused an accidental shooting in an Andrews Lodge apartment area injuring Mrs. Georgia Haynes and Mrs. Virginia Hawthorne. Haynes, 40, received a bullet wound to the upper right arm. Hawthorne, 22, sustained a deep scalp wound. Sheriff’s report cites a confrontation with a frightened boy Lee Wayne who warned the intruders.
In a special meeting Monday night the City Council appointed a temporary zoning committee to work with city engineers Hasie and Green of Lubbock to study residential and business locations and draft a proposal. The group has no power until an ordinance creates the panel. Council also adopted a Faris Harris Chap man and Marsh audit report with minor errors reconciled and approved by vote. An ordinance creating a city chief of police was presented by City Attorney Guillet with hiring and firing powers defined.
West Texas visitors converge for Andrews County event featuring tours of four new elementary buildings, an administration building, and a bowl shaped football stadium. Thousands expected for tours, a parade, marching bands, a Mustang, and a dedication prayer during a long afternoon into night celebration.
Officials announce a large new water field in northeast Andrews county capable of delivering 15 million gallons daily. The discovery was made after pumping tests at the first test well, 12 miles northeast of Andrews, on University of Texas land.

Coach Glenn Frazier reshapes the lineup with Doyie Hamilton out due to a broken thumb and several players jockeying for positions as Andrews seeks a 2-AAA win over 3-AAA Lake View led by Rex Wilson and Billy Lee.
Funeral services for Rufus A. Cox of Andrews will be held at 2 p m at the Church of Christ with Doyle Kelsey to officiate. Burial will follow in a Cisco cemetery. Cox died Wednesday about 11 a m on a fishing trip to Lake Thomas from heart attack at age 62. Survived by daughter Mrs Bill Betenbough of Andrews son Billy Cox of Andrews and Roy Cox of San Antonio sister Mrs May Merchant of Dallas brother Frank Cox of Alameda Calif and five grandchildren.
Home mail delivery starts Saturday morning after months of preparation at the local post office. Five foot routes and a parcel post route have been set, with extra staff assigned.
