Andrews Mustangs defeat Seminole Indians 22-8 to start the season on a hot note. Ronnie Brice leads with a 57 yard TD run and a late 25 yard score as Mustang offense and defense, aided by Norton brothers, hold off the Indians after a tight first half. The game totals show 241 rushing yards for Andrews and 91 passing yards with one interception. The Indians rack up 183 rushing and 70 passing with 14 first downs.
Andrews County 4 H calf show committee outlined final plans for an auction of calves with a packer bid establishing a price floor. Buyers may keep calves or resell to the packer, and the group urges attendance or bids plus a barbecue luncheon for purchasers.
Members of the United Fund board met for breakfast Thursday at 7 30 am and approved a new solicitor card and receipt. Pledges totaled $2 000 with about fifteen present. Mrs R R Ramsey and Mrs Johnny Smith named publicity chairmen. Byford Sealy led memorial gifts and Jim Burcham heads solicitations among all businesses. Ross Hite leads Pure Oil Dollarhide area solicitors with John Singleton, Superintendent Pure Oil, backing the drive.
The city warns citizens that strict enforcement of the dog ordinance will follow numerous complaints. Dog catcher Wylie Kinard cites sections requiring restraints, secure enclosures or tying aggressive dogs, rabies immunization, and annual taxes by dog license with fines up to 100 dollars for violations.
A French school teacher Mademoiselle Yvonne Brecelj toured Andrews public schools during a Wednesday visit. She met with principals and officials while Mrs Hartman Gruber, her daughter Christy, and family groups from Odessa observed Devonian elementary, the high school, and the administration building. Principal Tommy Hendrick guided the tour and later arranged car repair for a brake issue.

Funeral services were held for Mrs Dammie Williams 88 at the Assembly of God in Andrews. She died Friday after a long illness and is survived by two sons Alvin and Edgar two daughters Hazel Price and Henry Vaden a sister pair Tavie Miller and Lillie Torbet and a large extended family including 23 grandchildren 32 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Burial was in Andrews cemetery.
Snyder tickets go on sale Wednesday at 8 am in the Andrews ISD administration building. Frances Gerald urged buyers to purchase early to avoid lines. Individual tickets are 1.50 and general admission 1.25.
In a special meeting the City Council agreed to redraft a proposal to acquire the school owned water system and present it to the school board. Earlier the board rejected a city plan, prompting talks on issuing bonds to develop a new source and transferring title to the city upon bond vote.
Seven criminal actions are to be called for trial the week of Sept 29 with announcements on that date and a jury available Sept 30. Cases include theft embezzlement abandonment of children and habitual criminal burglary charges with attorneys Sullivan Guillet Lee and others.
Andrews County commissioners met to arrange a meeting between contractor Carl Vickers and Dixie Maltsberger to discuss paving on Babyland at the cemetery and to hire Vickers for concrete work. The Humble Oil and Refining proposal for Humble Means Camp was approved. They also authorized retroactive pay of 100 to Judge G C Olsen from Sept 1 for judicial and administrative services.
