Rain Fills Lake As Downpour Swamps County Streets

A heavy rain Monday drenched the county with up to three and a half inches in some areas. Two inches fell in 45 minutes starting at 5 p.m. causing streets to flood before tapering to drizzle by morning. Rain totals varied from 2.42 inches at the airport to 3.6 inches in the northwest. The storm began north of Andrews with ranches reporting over three inches and extended to the southern edges with lesser totals. No hail or wind accompanied the shower.

Andrews senior named President's Scholar at Texas A&M

J Keith Clanahan of Andrews has been named a President's Scholar at Texas A&M University. The Andrews High School senior is one of 20 outstanding Texas students chosen for the honor, which includes a 1000 dollar yearly scholarship for four or five years of study at A&M.

County commissioners accepted the physical therapy unit for Permian General Hospital pending a correction list. They toured the facility with contractor and architect to finalize items. Andrews school board votes levy on University of Texas lands

The Andrews school board unanimous vote to tax surface land and royalty from University lands covering about one third of county acreage. Supporters claim potential revenue while opponents caution tentative legality. The board also unanimously requires measles and polio vaccines for pupils next school year.

United Fund Sets 19834 Dollar Campaign Goal

Local City Councilman Hospitalized In Lubbock ICU

Jim Dotson a city councilman and local druggist was hospitalized in Methodist Hospital Lubbock over the weekend and placed in the intensive care unit. Friends report he is suffering an inflamed heart condition.
