Samuel E. Nolley 72 Andrews county pioneer cattleman and former Eastland sheriff died Sunday at 10 a m while seated in his car in front of a renter s house. Services were at the Church of Christ Andrews at 4 p m with Rev. Sam Malone officiating. Singleton s Funeral Home in charge. Survived by widow two sons L H Jayton and S E Tyler four daughters Mrs Walter Stewart Gilmer Mrs C C Curtis Jr Tyler Mrs E M Moore Fort Worth and Mrs Clifford Miffleton Inglewood ten grandchildren two great grandchildren two half brothers and one sister. Interment in Andrews cemetery.
Coach Neil Taylor leads the inexperienced Mustangs against the vaunted Dalhart Wolfpack in Dalhart. Twenty three players travel for a Thursday workout while guard George Carruth recovers from Wink scrimmage injury and Dalhart relies on 210 pound back Billy Cessman for heavy rushing power.
Six flights enter a club championship starting Sunday at Andrews Country Club. Pairings based on Thursday qualifying scores, with winners advancing to quarterfinals and beyond, and losers entering consolation. Details list 24 players across championships and four other flights with names and pairings.
Five district 8-AA teams begin season play with aims for title berths. Predictions name Dalhart over Andrews 25 6 and Levelland over Pecos 26 20, with Denver City 13 Seminole 12. Wink predicted to beat Monahans 27 6 and Winters over Kermit 19 15.
Milton Rae is the name given the six pound nine ounce son born to Mr. and Mrs. F. M Brooks on August 30. Jackie Wayne is the seven pound nine ounce son born to Mr. and Mrs. B. H Cranfill on August 30. A. W. Harrison welcomes a seven pound twelve ounce son born September 2.
Mrs. Helen Ford suffered two badly mashed fingers on her left hand when a car door slammed on her hand Sunday. The incident occurred as she exited the vehicle, causing painful injuries.
Enrollment in the 1951-52 term surged as 1198 students signed in by yesterday morning, with officials predicting over 1200 total. The Brownfield schools reported the same 1200 figure, while the high school added 32 students to reach 266 in the four grades.
R L Miller announces T M Hood Jr will assume duties as acting manager of Texas Electric Service Company in Andrews replacing Grady Kidd who is ill. Hood comes with 16 years in the company and previously served in Fort Worth Grand Prairie and now relocation with wife and three children. A separate note lists enrollment by grade with first grade 151 pupils and tenth grade 85.
The Andrews Quarterback Club will screen football highlights of 1950 from the Southwestern conference Monday night. James Roberts announces season signup and officer elections after a regular business meeting. The Humble Company film follows the club meeting in the old school cafeteria at 8 o clock with coaches Neil Taylor and Max Goldsmith reporting on the Dalhart Andrews game.
State fire officials lauded the Andrews Volunteer Fire Department for its outstanding record since 1946. Olen Culberson credited the department with raising fire insurance credits from minus 15 percent to plus 25 percent, lowering residents’ premiums by 25 cents per dollar.
In Andrews incorporators of H. G. Lindsey Inc include H. G Lindsey Mary Beth Lindsey and J C Williamson. Secretary of State John Ben Shepperd approved a charter with capital stock of 8000 this week. The firm marks 50 years of corporate existence.
Charles Havens, longtime cashier at the First State Bank of Andrews, will resign September 15 to take a cashier position at State National Bank in Bic Spring.
Magnolia Petroleum Co reports No. 1 Tom Peay well in Central-North Andrews County as a flowing discovery from Wolfcamp. The well produced 375 barrels of 39.2 degree oil with no water in a 24 hour test from 9,227-50 to 9,275-9,300 feet after 500 gallons mud acid wash.
Mrs Keith Harding joins Andrews Primary as a third grade teacher bringing a BA from T S C W and prior teaching in the system. Mrs Charles Compton is added to the Andrews staff to teach English in Junior High this year.
Promotion Troy Bostwick, manager here for a year, moved Monday to Lubbock to oversee a store there. Virgil Mc Haney, former Seminole store assistant manager, will replace him.
Visitors in the Buddy Malone home for the past week were Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Stone and their children from Carlsbad New Mexico.
Funeral services for Mrs Rose C Fore 79 who died September 1 in a Big Spring hospital were held Tuesday at 3 pm at the First Baptist Church with Rev Everett L Martin officiating She resided here with her son Fay Teague and is survived by her husband Walter Fore of Odessa two sons Fay Teague Andrews and Albert Fore of Eden three daughters E E Rylant Dallas Dennis McDonald Rotan and J T Jeter Odessa eighteen grandchildren six great grandchildren and grandsons served as pallbearers The Nally Funeral Home of Big Spring had charge and burial was in Andrews cemetery
Five 4-H club calves were weighed during a regular test check announced by County Agent Pete Millican. Norma Doty led gains with 3 pounds daily, her calf rising from 290 to 480 between July 2 and September. Breeder H. R. Doty is listed.
The L. V. Madisons have returned from a vacation spent in Glendale and San Francisco California with relatives and sightseeing.
