Coach of the Decade honors in UIL number sense

Milo W Weaver nominates teachers for Coach of the Decade in number sense. Don Boles of Andrews High leads with seven state appearances and five titles in the 1963 72 decade, followed by Dorothy Brandon of Quanah and others from Midland to Odessa. Andrews tops high schools list with ten state appearances and six champions.

Christmas Parade Opens Yule Season Here Friday

The Andrews Christmas Parade kicks off the season Friday at 4 30 p m with Santa aboard a fire engine leading about 20 entries including bands cars floats and color guards. Prizes of 50 25 and 10 will be awarded after the parade with Fantasyland opening at 113 NW Avenue A. Stores stay open late on several December dates and a Chamber of Commerce cash drawing runs on three Thursdays in December with 100 50 and so on.

Mustangs Suffer First Loss to Odessa Bronchos 60 49

The Andrews Mustangs drop their basketball game 60 49 to Odessa High School on Monday night after leading 13 12 early and trailing 36 29 at halftime. Darrell Hobbs tops with 11 points, Jim Leach 10 as Odessa holds on through a tense final period. The JV game went to overtime 69 67 with Odessa prevailing.

Andrews High adopts 1130 IBM computer for school tasks

The 1130 IBM computer at Andrews High School reduces drudgery in bookkeeping grading and averaging for teachers coaches and librarians. It supports student instruction in nine weeks of computer studies and prints letters and meeting records quickly while offering expanded uses for scheduling payroll attendance transcripts and scouting reports.

Man Gassed Sent to PGH After Nine Mile Road Incident

At about 3 p m a city ambulance responded to a gas exposure on Nine Mile Road south of Andrews. John Lamb 21 was overcome by fumes and rushed to Permian General Hospital where he regained consciousness en route and was admitted in good condition after treatment by attendants.

Second Annual Toy Bowl Set in Mustang Bowl Clash

The Andrews Jaunty Jaycees and the Brawny Boys Club Coaches meet in the Mustang Bowl Saturday at 7 30 p.m. to raise toys for the Toys For Tots drive. Admission is a tow and proceeds go to Goodfellows while flags fly and fans expect light contact football action.

Messiah Scheduled for December 13 at First Baptist

A citywide choir will perform Handel's Messiah on Wednesday December 13 at 6 30 pm at First Baptist Church. Choirs from area churches rehearse weekly at the church with a string ensemble and organ accompaniment. no admission fee.

SIC Book List Open to Public

The State Textbook Committee reports a 1973 adoption list of books and teaching aids available for inspection in the school administration office. Local committees will review the list and return adopted books for Andrews schools by March 31, 1973.
