The editor notes a busy week before Thanksgiving with legals, invitations, and notices piling up. He recounts a mid night horse accident near Fort Worth but reports no injuries, comments on a Baylor S M U game and pass interference, and expresses gratitude for 1948 blessings and a strong year.
Beginning November 23 the Andrews School will be mentioned on the air over KECK Odessa. The program runs Monday through Saturday from 10 30 to 11 00 and includes news bits gathered for the Round up by Andrews Merchants.
Senior Scouts organized last November plan a four day camping trip at Davis Mountain Scout Ranch from November 25 to 28 to celebrate their first anniversary. Led by Odell Spear the delegation includes Neill Longley Billy Wilson Robert Forbes Blackie Quillin Delton Quillin Alvis Woolam Claude Hood Weldon McCown Bob Turnage John Stacy Hamilton Billy Spear Jimmy Strickland and Gayle Bacon. They expect rugged fun and sightseeing including a visit to McDonald Observatory. Jeff Chambers did business in Olney Oklahoma last week.
The Andrews Independent School District Board set a bond election for December 11 to authorize up to 275000 in bonds for purchasing and improving school sites building stadium field house and water system additions. Crowding in the Primary building prompted the vote due to excess first grade enrollment.
Mrs. Othel Ogden entertained at her home on Friday November 12th for her son Walker’s eighth birthday. Ray Phillips is visiting his mother in Ardmore Oklahoma.
The Texas State Teachers Association heads to Dallas for its seventieth annual convention November 25 26 27 with an expected attendance surpassing 15000 teachers The event features three general sessions fifty three sectional meetings and twenty three meals with numerous educational topics on the agenda From Andrews Schools attendees include Mr and Mrs Thomas D Hamilton Mr and Mrs M Q Woolam and Mr J Lee Smith

Sheriff Peacock returns from Austin after attending a law enforcement school for Texas sheriffs held at Camp Mabry. Fifty six sheriffs from various counties completed the class as Jimmy McAuley and Rex Phillips are home for the holidays from John Tarlton College and will return Sunday.

In a high school football finale the Andrews Mustangs trounced the Seminole Indians 32 14 to finish the season runner up in the conference. Bob Holman starred with 55 rushing yards a touchdown and solid defense while Hamilton and Weatherby contributed on offense and defense.
The Hamilton Stadium crowd heard Taps as the band and pep squad closed the 1948 season. Marching formations included a Seven-Eight movement and a countermarch creating a Trible Cliff while the pep squad formed notes and they played Say It with Music.
Andrews County Agriculture Association members will vote December 8 1948 at the county courthouse from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for county committee chair vice chair regular member first and second alternates. Ballots may be mailed or voted in person. each member and spouse get one vote.

Multiple local residents visit relatives travel to El Paso Eunice Jal Seminole and Colorado City for family events and medical updates.
Funeral services were held for Mrs. J D Mathews 74 a pioneer of Andrews County at Means Memorial Methodist Church with Rev Raymond Van Zandt officiating. She died Thursday November 18 after falling ill Monday and had lived with her daughter in West Andrews since her husband Judge Mathews died. She was born March 18 1874 in Howell County Missouri married to J D Mathews in Mertens Texas August 4 1895 and had four children two daughters and a son surviving. She joined the Methodist Church at age 12 and was buried in Andrews Cemetery beside her husband.
Bettie Thomas was crowned football sweetheart amid cheering fans on Hamilton field. Co captains Bob Holman and John Corley placed her on a throne as Sonny Helvey drove her in a Mustang. She received roses and a full page Mustang photo, crowned after the Let Me Call You Sweetheart ceremony.
Mabee Camp hosts Mr and Mrs Ludie Lynn returning from a two week vacation. Visitors include Mr and Mrs B T Johnson Carroll Sundown and Mr and Mrs E J Maxwell Kermit. Congratulations to Mr and Mrs W E Erwin on a grandson born November 19 named Richard Garland.
Mrs. W. H. Weaver and Mary made a business trip to Lubbock Thursday. Rev. Aud Jones was called to Crosscut Texas Wednesday to conduct a funeral. Mrs. Buddy Fair and young daughter Cynthia Jo are spending the week with Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Justice. Mr. and Mrs. Percy Morrison and Mr. and Mrs. Fronin Jones were Lamesa visitors and shopped Monday.
