Sheriff J. A. Gregory was elected chairman of the Andrews Ambassadors at a luncheon meeting. Charlie Ward presided and was commended for his service. Fred Courtney was named new vice chairman. Upcoming area chamber banquets noted include December 9 in Lamesa and January events in Seminole Fort Stockton Monahans Odess a and Slaton.
The Andrews Classroom Teachers Association executive committee will honor the local school board at a dinner meeting Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. in the board room of the administration building. The event follows a short board meeting and presents details of a recent national award nomination by the classroom teachers group. Mrs. Bill Goolsby is president. Mrs. Pearl Bisbee and Mrs. Tommy Headrick cochaired the nomination presentation.
An early morning fire at the Ranch House cafe caused roof damage likely sparked by neon lighting. Thursday afternoon saw grass fires in the NW 4th alley 508 block and on SW 9th. A Tuesday afternoon flash fire occurred inside Waggoner Trucking. All fires were quickly extinguished.

Tommy Jackson and Cathy Willis lead as Albert Peterson and Rose Alvarez with Brad Noble Billie Smith and Larry Elkins in key roles. Performances January 6 7 10 11 and rehearsals underway.
The first annual Yule tide Toy Bowl will be held December 17 at 6 30 pm. The K Action Cowboys led by Marian Harrelson face the Gregory Packers coached by Maurice Simmons in a flag football contest. Admittance is a toy donation for Andrews children.
Twelve Andrews shoppers received turkeys as gifts from local merchants for Thanksgiving. Winners include L. D. Adkins at First National Bank, Harry N. Strickland at Andrews Savings and Loan, Mrs. Lloyd Stoebner at The Town Shop, Noel Galloway at B Williams, Bob Boren at Edna's, Mrs. Hank Eliason at H D Food, Jim L. Cornett at Anthony's, J. L. McPherson at the Little Shop, Marcella Creswell at Wacker's, Robert W. Taylor at Speedway, and B. L. Craig at Andrews Lumber, Agnes Brown among others.
A Thursday 8:05 a.m. crash on the Eunice Highway involved two pickups. Frank Thames of Andrews pulled out and hit a Midland resident's truck. No injuries. both vehicles suffered heavy damage. Patrolman George Frazier investigated, noting sun glare on a foggy windshield blinded the first driver.
