Educator Invited To Russia On Spring Tour

Dr. R. A. Montgomery Andrews superintendent was selected by the American Association of School Administrators to tour the Soviet Union from March 24 to April 26. The trip aims to study Russian curriculum achievement standards teaching methods organizational patterns and administrative techniques.

Regional Playoff Set As Sonora Faces Seagraves Here

Andrews hosts regional playoff at Mustang Field Saturday at 7 30 p m with Sonora Broncos and Seagraves Eagles meeting for the bi regional title. Mrs. Bill Alford of 710 SW Ist, an Andrews housewife, used pliers to cut the battery cable and halt a car fire in the 300 block of NWB before firefighters arrived. She demonstrated calm presence of mind that impressed the fire crew.

Santa Claus Parade Heads for Yale On Monday

Santa Claus is due in Andrews on Monday at 5 p m for the annual Yale parade. He will arrive by firetruck and visit court house square for candy distribution. He will return daily 3 to 6 p m until Christmas as a merchants courtesy. The plan was adopted at a Tuesday merchants meeting along with support for a United Fund committee and a housing plan discussion.

Mustang basketball opens with losses at Jal and Odessa

Andrews Mustangs opened the season with two defeats, 53 45 at Jal and 63 56 at Odessa. Bobby Smith led Andrews with 25 points at Odessa while Gene Johnson paced Odessa with 23. In the Odessa junior varsity, John Hatcher and George Kay led Andrews with 13 and 12 points.

Andrews High School Band Makes First Division Run

The Andrews High School Band won first division in marching at Big Spring, region VIII, the first such win since 1959. Band director Bill Green, assistant Gary Ivy, drum major Cynthia Reed, and twirlers led a squad that also earned high placements in related events.
