The Faithful Workers Sunday School Class held a Thanksgiving Luncheon Saturday at the home of Mrs. Archie Roach. Birthdays of Ottie Holman and W. C. Peeples were honored with a cake. Plans for a Christmas party for husbands on December 17 were announced by Ethel McDonald. Large crowds attended events during National Education Week at Fullerton and Andrews. A party honored Mrs. Loyd Ford's family for birthdays, while the Fullerton Home Demonstration Club welcomed new members and awarded prizes. In Andrews, more than a thousand toured the new high school auditorium, visited classrooms, and enjoyed cake and coffee, as the band and school programs showcased progress.
Humble Camp Mews Mr and Mrs Homer Hurst and Marsha Kay shopped in Odessa Saturday. Mrs Dan Purple is a patient in Tombs Hospital at Seminole this week. Mr and Mrs N F Harms and Dharma Hun spent last weekend visiting relatives at Victoria. The G Dyer family shopped in Big Spring Saturday. Mr W H Free of Abilene arrived to visit his daughter Mrs Rip Elmore and family. Mr and Mrs Victor Skalnik on a week long vacation in Houston. They will return this week end. Mr and Mrs A A Horne and children will spend Thanksgiving holidays in Lampasas with relatives. Mrs Alvin Richardson and Gertrude Weeks of Odessa visited Mrs Chas Thorpe Sunday afternoon. Mr and Mrs J B Smith were in Lubbock Armistice Day. Mr and Mrs Roy Thomas are on vacation this week.
The Study Club and husbands shared a traditional Thanksgiving dinner with turkey and pumpkin pie. Dr. Z. W. Hutchenson delivered the invocation. Mrs. A. C. Lively led the High School Chorus in Now The Day Is Over and Moonlight Bay. Hostesses listed for future affairs include Mrs. God and Mrs. M. W. Manning and numerous couples.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Robertson and Mr. and Mrs. A C Lively attended the Shrine Ceremonial in El Paso over the weekend. They report an interesting and enjoyable trip.
The Lions Luncheon at Means Memorial Church drew visitors including C. L. Leisure Phillips Gasoline Plant superintendent and M. E. Ivy assistant manager. Judge Milton Ramsey reported on the Andrews Lamesa road and Mabee road progress, with contracts for Dollarhide to be let in Austin. A trophy for the Phillips Soft Ball team was presented to Mr Ivy by Knox Irwin.
Andrews County AAA Committee election is set for December 8 with two candidates for each office including Chairman and Vice Chairman. A sample ballot will run in next week's Andrews County News. Farmers are urged to apply at the AAA office for 1948 conservation practices including stubble and deep plowing with payments and deadlines noted.
Fishteen members of the Andrews O E S visited the Seminole O E S Chapter Tuesday night for a friendship gathering. Attending were Mr. and Mrs. Duane Hood, Mrs. Charles Pippin, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Thomas, Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Nelson, Mrs. Carl Betenbough, Mrs. Connie Pruett, Mrs. Cora Heath, Mrs. Roberts, Mrs. Minnie Chambers, Mrs. Strickland, Mrs. Robinson, Mrs. Bee Bible, Mrs. Harry Robertson, and Mrs. Nell Reeves.
Jimmie Burleson, manager of the Wallace Theatre, received a cash bonus from Box office Magazine for an outstanding advertising and display front. His photo appeared in the November 13 issue of Boxoffice Magazine, the national motion picture industry publication.
Mr. E C McCracken wed Miss Hazel Berkce Bounds on November 6 1948. Dallas William Ives wed Mrs. Zella Anette Voight on November 9 1948. Cephas Edward Matthews wed Lucy Benedict on November 10 1948.
About 1 500 people attended the Young Smith Motor Company opening of its new Ford building on Tuesday evening November 16th. A Crosley Radio Phonograph was awarded to Roland Tilly and a car service prize was given to others amid dancing and square dancing.
Mrs A S Davila is in Andrews Hospital for surgery. Suffering a knee injury, Mr C D Johnson of Crosbyton is recovering nicely. Mr H Fennel is being treated for a fractured toe.
Andrews County pioneer Mrs. J D Mathews wife of a former county judge died early Thursday in Andrews Hospital after admission last Monday for treatment She lived with her daughter Fannie Mathews in West Andrews for years Funeral arrangements are incomplete
Six year old Jimmie McClendon Jr. son of Mr and Mrs Jimmie McClendon Sr was seriously hurt Friday after a car door opened and he was thrown to the pavement near Kermit They rushed him to Kermit City Hospital where doctors found a fractured skull and noted some improvement in condition.
Singleton's Department Store of Andrews marks its fourth anniversary on November 20. The business began four years ago and has prospered under manager Mrs. Ola Davis since opening. Owner Co V Singleton also runs stores in Seminole and Morton and operates funeral homes in Morton, Seminole.
The Morrow Causseaux and Underwood families thank friends for flowers food and sympathy after the loss of their son. May God bless each of you. The newly formed First Christian Church will hold Sunday School at 2 15 p.m. Sunday November 21 at Means Memorial Church. Church service will be at 3 30.
In Northwest Andrews County the Ellenburger at Shafter Lake yields commercial oil via Sinclair Prairie Oil Company No 2-154 University. Test at 11,695 to 11,746 feet showed 95 barrels of clean oil, 4,300 feet water, no surface oil, with gravity 41 degrees and minimal gas. A second test at 11,740 to 11,? feet found no oil or water. The unit pauses, then plans 60 more feet and another test. Location 1,980 feet north and 660 feet east of section 24, block 13, University survey. Shafter Lake Pool also productive from Wolfcamp, Clear Fork, Devonian and Pennsylvanian.
In a Friday grid match at Hamilton Field the Andrews Mustangs face the Seminole Indians in a battle for second and third place. Both clubs seek a win after similar conference losses, with the Mustangs aiming to improve their six year edge in percentage.
The Tuesday Study Club held talks on the History of Andrews County on November 2. Mrs. Knox Irwin Jr. shared details about Shafter Lake during its Western town era. Mrs. B H Pinnell spoke on The Pioneer and Early Rancher of Andrews County. Hosts served refreshments to club members and guests.
The Farmer's Co op Gin reports 190 bales of cotton ginned to date led by J E Stewart. Officials estimate about 350 bales will be ginned this season at the facility.
Ayers and his wife and son attended an Abilene radio convention where Ayers station W5BTU won the pre-registration prize a $100 radio transmitter. Mrs Ayers also won a prize at the event. The item notes a separate UT ex-students reunion planned in Dallas during the Texas State Teachers Association Convention with several named attendees.
Mrs Robert Ernest Neely attended the University of Texas for three years and worked for International Life Insurance in Austin. Mr Neely, UT graduate and petroleum engineer, previously with Sea board Oil and now with the Gun Peroration Dept of the Western Company. They will live in Odessa and were residents of Andrews, near Sea graves High School.
Glenda Joyce Shiver was born on November 10 to Mr and Mrs Charles J Shiver.
