The Andrews Chamber selection committee seeks nominations for outstanding citizens with a deadline of Monday November 25. Any individual or club may nominate a citizen over 21 who excels in business or profession and has contributed to government or community progress, civic or church groups, or general welfare activities. George McDaniel chairs the nominations committee and urges public nominations.
A new Andrews United Fund board held at City Hall with Dr Z W Hutcheson named president and EK Brenholtz first vice president. Directors include three year and two year members such as Stoebner Brown Gordon Underwood Brannan and Hutcheson. The Women’s Division of the Chamber of Commerce was praised for reviving the fund drive and a by laws committee will be formed. A letter will be mailed to oil companies and businesses about the upcoming 1969 UF drive.
Charles J. McGuffin of Florida and John Pheatt of Kansas were arrested here last week and charged with destruction of private property. Bond set at $2,500 each. The arrests relate to damage from shots fired at a tank battery west of town, per Sheriff J. A. Gregory. A third man was stopped on NW 4th and released.
Lois Mills, new full time dispatcher since April, joins a team serving both law enforcement agencies. She trains on relief duty since September and helps handle fires burglaries weather and other calls. Mills also serves as jail matron responsible for female prisoners.
A telegram reports Sp/4 Earl Scott Jr. has been hospitalized in Yokohama Japan after burns to the face arms and legs and a metal fragment wound to the scalp with a perforated tympanic. He is listed as seriously ill and mail is directed to 106th General Hospital Yokohama Japan APO San Francisco 96503.
Larry Paschal of 1126 Crescent Drive lost a billfold at the Rose Theatre and reported it to the sheriff's office. Kenneth Howell, 24 of Ozark Arkansas visiting relatives, found the billfold on Main Street, turned it in, and returned it to the owner by midnight with all cash and cards intact.
Funeral services were held in Sweetwater for Mrs Reinhold Berger 83 mother of Mrs John Hogue of Andrews. A native of Germany she moved to West Texas in 1912. The Hogues attended the services and burial followed in Sweetwater.
Rain fell again in Andrews on Thursday night as students lit their annual bonfire. Total rainfall reached one inch in the northwest part of town and .74 inches at the airport, bringing the year's total in "rainy Andrews" to about 20 inches.
Kermit Yellowjackets clinched the 2AAA gridiron championship by outpacing the Andrews Mustangs 47 to 15. Tom Ryan scored on a late drive, while Charlie Rogers and Ryan added key runs and scores as Kermit asserted control after the first quarter.
Joseph Henry Bud Quinn a 66 year old former Army veteran and retired mechanic was found dead in his trailer at 190 SE Ave A Andrews late Wednesday by Sonny Rose and Lonnie Gross. Justice of the Peace ruled death by natural causes with time of death Friday or Saturday. Funeral services pending. relatives sought. The body lies at Singleton Funeral Home.
The annual college night at the high school will be held Tuesday November 19 at 7 30 p m. National Honor Society hosts will assist.
The first adult education course nears completion with two students expected to finish high school diplomas next Thursday. About 43 adults are pursuing diplomas and over 50 more take courses alongside their diploma work.

The facility operated at 60 percent occupancy with charges of 567 736 19 and expenses of 7196 31, depreciation estimated at 4500.
Lloyd Willis a carpentry trades instructor in the vocational department fell from the framework of a house under construction at NW 9th and Ave S. He sustained injuries to his hand wrist and ankle. The accident occurred on Wednesday.
