Miss Norma Smith deputy tax collector reports with 32 tax paying days left about 94 000 has been collected and 40 000 remains. Taxpayers who paid in October receive a 3 percent reduction while those paying before year end will get a 2 percent reduction.
Andrews Grade School Principal Rufus F. Walker reviewed Stuart Streit’s book Union Now before a small Andrews County audience. He praised the author’s case for a global union of democracies as a solution to international issues.
Rev Roy Clayton reports attending the State Baptist Convention in San Antonio and will return in time to preach at 11 o clock Sunday morning. Evening service preacher will be Rev Nicholas of Abilene and West Texas Child Welfare Association. Clayton enjoys the convention but has not yet seen the sights.
Has Operation Johnnie Muriel Sikes, daughter of Mr and Mrs C J Sykes, undergone an operation for appendicitis in Lubbock Sanarium Tuesday. It is reported that she is getting well.
Congressman George H. Mahon, U.S. representative, visited Andrews and spoke to students and teachers at the public schools. He planned to remain in the Federal Building in Lubbock between sessions. He attended the Seagraves Chamber of Commerce banquet as the principal speaker.
A Friday Andrews game with the Big Spring B Team was canceled by Big Spring officials. Coach Anthony said many regulars were on the crippled list, forcing the coach to save reserves for the San Angelo battle.

Mr and Mrs L H Shirey relocate to Jal New Mexico after a work transfer. Friends here regret the boys departure but wish them success in their new home. Andrews High School colt team to play Seminole papooses with 130 pound weight limit this week. A return game is set for Friday with a strong line and quick backs. Mrs Virgil Reed travels to Dallas to purchase Christmas goods for Reed Drug Store as holiday shopping begins and local merchants anticipate a robust season.
A six ton steel beam supporting the Andrews County Court House roof fell eighteen feet when a hoisting chain broke on a large truck crane. No injuries occurred though the beam crushed a concrete slab and punched a hole in the second floor. A heavier chain was later used to lift the beam into place.
The Andrews Parent Teacher Association held a meeting on youth issues with talks by Chas. W. Roberts on The Farmer Has a Son and M. O. Bridges on For Want of a Nail. They urged better recreational and library facilities and stressed parental and teacher example in morals. Mrs. Will Burkety and Mass Luella Newman contributed a song, My Wild Irish Rose.

County graders and crews started this week on the sixty mile Eunice Andrews Stanton highway. Officials authorized the county road force to bring the route to first class condition.
