School officials will meet tonight and Friday night with parents and community members to discuss a proposed 2 million bond to be decided at a bond election on Tuesday November 21. Meetings target parents of elementary students at Devonian and San Andres with attendees from nearby areas. Glorieta and Underwood schools hold Friday night sessions at 7 p.m. in their cafeterias with a school administrator, a board member and a steering committee member present to explain the proposal and answer questions.
Andrews High School girls from the junior class stage a Powderpuff game dubbed The Ponytail Bowl at Mustang Stadium at 7 p.m. Tickets cost 1 for adults and 50 cents for students. Nominees for Powderpuff King are Kavin Rougeaux Charley Gregg and David McCaskill. The DQ Browns face the GW Glory Stompers.
The proposed 2 million dollar school bond aims to extend bonded indebtedness from 1976 to 1983 without raising the tax rate for bonded debt. Officials say current costs per 100 valuation will rise only briefly and then fall as the payoff approaches, with area districts pursuing similar building programs.
Roy Eugene West Jr. received a 25 year term, the heaviest in Andrews County history, after being found guilty of murdering his wife in their home. The piece recounts prior high and notable murder sentences dating back to 1913, including the Cabrel murder case and the 1952 Adams shooting in Odessa.
