Neighbors report a terrifically noisy skirmish at sunrise on a lake island between two long-legged birds, one a sand hill crane or blue heron. Witness Jim Herzberger saw the victor take flight, while nearby residents describe the ensuing public curiosity and speculation.
A long listing of Andrews postmasters from 1909 to 1960s notes various appointees and promotions, with Doug Luck moving to Odessa. Prospects rise for the Mighty Mustang Marching Band under Jim Harvey as UIL marching contest nears in Odessa with bands from area towns.
Andrews students will leave Tuesday at 3 30 p m for Thanksgiving break and return to classes on Monday November 26th. The early dismissal on Tuesday marks an earlier holiday opening than in past years.
The 1973-74 Mustang basketball season opens Tuesday with junior varsity at 7:15 p.m. and varsity at 8 p.m. in Andrews amid district play setup and legal notes on a leasing action in the 161st District Court in Odessa.
At a Tuesday night meeting the board debated adding a planetarium to the new middle school and asked for time to consider the proposed 121,623 dollar project after presentations by Forest Scott, Mrs. Maurice Crouse, and Mark Wallace.
Andrews County commissioners were advised on Monday that efforts were under way to speed the county hospital building plans and offset possible trouble in the project.
Andrews High School students Terry McReynolds and Jamie Mosley earned All Region first tenor spots after auditions at Permian High School among 250 competitors. McReynolds ranked eighth in tenor and may advance to the All Area Chorus.
Powderpuff grid tilt headlines the night with 47th annual junior girls game in the Mustang Bowl. Teams include the Rockin Boltin Rompers versus the Dirty DW Hoping Wentern coached by Loy Aan Res and Lil Rogers. Cheerleaders and players are highlighted as the opening kick at 7 pm.
Andrews High School Thespians present Up the Down Staircase based on Bel Kaufman. A 30 student cast, led by John Hogue, performs twice this week in the Little Theatre at 7 30 p m with tickets 1 for adults 50 cents for students. Karen Gregory plays Sylvia Barrett in a tale of a new teacher facing chaos and challenges in a crowded urban school.
