Former Andrews county resident Weaver Embree died at Medical Center Hospital Odessa after a heart attack earlier in the week. He was employed by Broncho Chevrolet and was a brother in law of Weldon Ingram of 1412 NW 11th.

Andrews County Chamber of Commerce directors voted to endorse a 2 million dollar school bond. They also accepted six nominees for four board positions and toured the Prairie Dog Town jail building, with a committee recommending not using the building as chamber offices.
Kermit Yellow Jackets beat the Mustangs 27 to 3 as 215 pound running back John Stout powered the scoring with 20 points. Andrews fumbled three times and threw two picks while Charles Fritz kicked a 7 yard field goal. Jim Clements intercepted to spark a Kermit drive that led to the early 3-0 lead.
AISD tax assessor-collector David Robinson said 19 basketball season tickets have been sold to option holders so far this year. With few reserved gym seats, about 48 tickets remain if all option holders collect them. The pickup deadline is November 17 before public sale begins November 20.

The Andrews County record shows 75 years total handed to 10 defendants in murder trials since 1913. Roy Eugene West Jr. received 25 years for the 28-year-old Pamela West killing, the heaviest sentence in county history.
