First prize 10000 with 1023 cash prizes. funds donated to Damon Runyon Memorial Cancer Fund. Doubled prize if entrant’s car is appraised. Judges include Walter Winchell and columnists Lyons and Parker.
A Cascade-Parker wildcat southeast of town produced only 22 feet of salty water with minimal oil after a drill stem test around 11 o clock Wednesday night. The rig, aiming for 5500 feet, reportedly reached the San Andres top and tested between 4850 and 4956 feet while awaiting orders. Mr and Mrs L W Reynolds with Mrs Phil Houston visited San Angelo on Thursday.
The M and O Furniture store in Andrews will hold a free demonstration on preparing foods for freezing and cooking. Miss Mae Huston, former Sul Ross College home economics teacher, now with International Harvester, will lead. The event starts at 2 p.m. Tuesday November 29 in the store building, with prizes for attendees.
Betty Ramsey daughter of Judge Milton Ramsey is sent by Stanolind Oil to Tulsa for a four week course in integrating gas charts. After completion she will return to work at the Stanolind Gasoline Plant in Fullerton. She left Andrews by air for Tulsa last Monday.
On Armistice Day 1949 residents of Andrews Texas and the U S pause to honor fallen soldiers from World War I and II. Many local merchants close for the day with shops reopening Saturday for weekend purchases.
J J Smith will chair an intensive drive to raise $1,009 for Andrews Girl Scouts beginning November 15. The effort aims to fund Camp Mitre Peak in the Davis Mountains and provide adult leadership for an active program in Andrews.

The Andrews Quarterback Club voted last Monday night to buy an electric clock for Hamilton Field at a cost of $800. The funds came from donations and proceeds of a Negro ball game, leaving a balance of $2,160.
Stanolind Oil & Gas reports two completions in Midland Farms field. No. 3-D David Falken yields 237.72 barrels of 31 gravity oil daily with 178-1 gas oil ratio, from 4,685 to 4,800 feet. No. 8-T-R/A-A Midland Farms delivers 5 831 barrels with 114-1 ratio, after acid treatment.
West Texas clash pits Wink Wildcats at Kermit Yellow Jackets in a key 5-A district game. A Wink win and Crane win could crown the district. losses shift title scenarios among Wink Andrews and Kermit. Kermit shows 2166 yards and 162 points in eight games, Wink 2623 yards and 216 points in nine games.
Andrews Mustangs host McCamey Badgers in homecoming night at Hamilton Field following a 40 to 0 win over Fort Stockton. Stokes of McCamey is a standout back and the team has beaten Denver City 32 to 6 and tied Seminole 7 to 7.
Building activity continues in Andrews with three new structures starting this week. H. K. Crack begins a Main Street business structure opposite Forrest Lumber Co and adds an apartment. First Christian church grows with walls up. Albert Sybesma expands Hillcrest Hotel with three new apartments. Guy Thompson completes a Chevron service station on West Broadway. Underwood building advances after material delay. County Library brick work finished and Hospital nearing completion.
The First State Bank of Andrews marks its fourth anniversary on Saturday November 12 continuing steady growth since opening November 12 1945. Initial deposits were 106475 32 with deposits at the latest statement 2056195 90. The bank began with three employees and now lists six. Directors are J Be Park J R Martin R M Barron Guy McGill Carl Un erwood J F Matchett and Claude Neely. Officers include J E Parker president J F Matchett vice president Guy McGill vice president Charles Havens cashier plus several Mrs. entries.
Edmond Roy aged 20 confessed to three Andrews burglaries including the DDD Jewelry Store robbery on October 24 in which six watches valued at 250 dollars were taken. He admitted entering Forrest Lumber Co store for a 22 rifle and shells and searched Andrews Recreation Hall. Roy was tracked by deputies to Stanolind Gas Plant Fullerton and arrested. He gave Courtland New York as home.
Texas hunters enjoy a fruitful season as Bill Hughen and sons return with a 10 point buck. R. H. Tucker and Gene bring two, while R. W. Fowler, Jack Seger, H. E. Clack, H. R. Doty, and Bobby Watkins each bag a deer.
Andrews Exes celebrate first Homecoming on Friday November 11 with a reception after the football game in the Junior High School gym. The Andrews Mustangs face the McCamey Badgers at Hamilton Field at 8 p.m. The football queen will be crowned at halftime. Bobby Jo Barnes leads the Andrews Student Council in organizing the social.
Lions Club announces postponement of the Ladies Night Banquet due to a church meeting conflict. President B. B. Rogers asks Lions to attend next Tuesday's luncheon to set a new date with no scheduling clash.
