Government Day Set For Thursday At Andrews High School
Andrews High School seniors participate in the second annual Youth Government Day on Thursday. About 170 civic students will shadow county and city offices and some state roles, with two or three per office in places. A mythical city council meeting caps the afternoon activities.
Santa to visit Andrews for 1964 Christmas kickoff
Santa Claus arrives at 5 30 p m November 30 on the Andrews courthouse square to light the city and take Christmas orders. The Yale lights go on around 6 p m and a huge tree will be decorated by the county and city. Merchants urged to join operation lightup with a lighting contest and a residential contest sponsored by a civic group. Lights sold by Andrews Boys Club at 30 cents a foot. A community singout and multiple choral performances planned on the square. Churches participate to boost Christmas celebrations in Andrews.

Women Hurt In Mishap at East Broadway Intersection
Mrs Jaanita Gray of 910 NE 7th suffered neck back and shoulder injuries and a finger injury after a three vehicle crash at 9 20 a m Wednesday at East Broadway and 1st. She was taken to Permian General Hospital in satisfactory condition. The other driver Marvin Owens of Hobbs and Henry McReath of 1110 Crescent Dr were involved. McReath received citations for improper lane usage and negligent collision. Wreck reported on page 5.

Two Write-In Votes Prompt County Office Dispute
William Bert Smith received two write-in votes for County Animal and Hide Inspector after ballots listed his name though the office was not on the official ballot. Commissioners canvassed and approved the election, then added the two votes after Smith pointed out the error. He argues the Texas Constitution requires the office and urges Andrews County to follow it.

Shell Oil recompletes Wolfcamp Devonian well near Andrews
Shell Oil Co. reentered No. 11 Ratliff Bedford in the Bedford field 25 miles southwest of Andrews and recompleted it as a Wolfcamp discovery. Perforations at 7,802 to 7,022 feet produced 169 barrels of 39 gravity oil with a gas oil ratio of 134 to 1 and 20 percent water after a 1,700 gallon acid treatment.
