The census reports 65 million televisions and 45 million bathtubs nationwide. It suggests potential for 20 million people to be watching TV while dirty, highlighting household asset counts and lifestyle inferences.
Local merchants report fall fashion leaning toward see-through blouses and scooter skirts. Scooter skirts are described as 17 inches in length, with the look catching on in Dallas markets and spreading to Andrews where merchants have begun selling these items.
Local highway crews are installing brand new shoulders on the Seminole and Odessa highways this week. The work improves road appearance and driving quality, with drivers urged to salute the crews for their efforts.
A gift lamp features a 40 watt base bulb heating a ten inch oval of heavy water with a plastic interior. As the liquid heats it forms slow moving rising shapes that cool and fall, creating a constant, changing display marketed to professionals. The ad notes it distracts clients as dire news is discussed.

185 seniors to receive diplomas tonight at Underwood Elementary as Piper James Roberts reports Piper, an arts and crafts teacher, was named principal by the board after a contentious May policy change. Superintendent Eddie Brenholtz led the recommendation from within the system amid debate over qualifications and outside applicants.
About 185 seniors graduate from Andrews High School in a ceremony at 8 p.m. under the dome. E A Brenholtz administers diplomas. Brodie Hutchinson introduces the class. Mark Bader welcomes. talks are by Steve Rose and Billie Smith. valedictory by Billy Tune and salutatory by Patsy Shoffit.
The Downtown Lions Club held its annual picnic in Pioneer Park on Tuesday honoring both outgoing chief Lowell McGee and incoming president Forrest Scott. Wives of members were special honorees at the barbecue supper.
Andrews Mustangs captured the bi-district baseball title in a 4-3 victory over the Dumas Demons at Mustangs Field. Johnny Hatcher pitched a no hitter despite seven walks and three runs allowed. The teams meet again Friday at 3 30 p m with a potential third game Saturday in Dumas at 2 p m.
The 18th annual Junior Rodeo is set for June 11 through 14 and aims to attract a record number of entries from the area. Sponsored by the Andrews County Sheriff's Posse, the event is billed as the largest junior rodeo in West Texas.
Two wrecks occurred this week on south Highway 385 with no injuries. James Edward Pool of Odessa lost control at 11 p.m. Saturday hitting a post and cable. passenger Neressa Newton, also of Odessa, was uninjured. A second crash Monday at 3 p.m. involved Cecil John Warton of Andrews and Ho bart Carlisle of Odessa. Carlisle’s pickup slid into a sign. Amos Allen, 17, Andrews High School athlete, is improving at Permian General Hospital after a serious illness.
Rev L D Kramer president of Challenge Homes Inc says 15 days of free care will be offered to residents who move into Andrews Nursing Home between June 2 and June 16 1969. Administrator Eugene Thompson sets June 2 as opening day as Memorial Day holiday plans loom.
Heavy rainfall and a lightning storm struck south of Andrews on Sunday, dropping about two inches in Midland Farms. Lightning damaged equipment at Pan American's Midland Farms plant while a wall at a clinic near Permian General Hospital was damaged by strong winds. Andrews County Airport logged a .02 inch rain trace around 1 p.m. The city saw roof damage and tree limb breakage as Saturday and Sunday totals reached ten inches in the area.
Grissom, 12 year old son of Mr and Mrs Preston Grissom, dived into City Lake Saturday and saved Tracey Pena, 6, who had stepped under water while wading. The boy scout pulled the child to safety as neighbors warned the lake is deeper than local children.
Gary Ivy, director of bands at the high school and junior high, is reported to be improved at Permian General Hospital. He is expected to transfer to Baylor Hospital in Dallas this week for surgery after tests conducted locally.
