Grand jury clears Sheriff Dillard in fatal McKinney shooting
Andrews County Grand Jury reported no bills against Sheriff Dick Dillard after hearing witnesses about the February 5 fatal shooting of Norman C. McKinney. Dillard, summoned by night watchman Lee, went to arrest McKinney and two others. a fight ended with McKinney mortally wounded and transported to an Odessa hospital. A murder charge had been filed in Justice Weatherby’s Court, but Dillard was released on a $5,000 bond awaiting grand jury action.

Popular Young Couple Joined in Holy Wedlock
Miss Ruth Evelyn Brasfield and Leroy Vaden were married at Odessa last Friday night March 24 with Rev. Harrison of the First Baptist Church officiating. The couple were accompanied by a few friends Harold Roberts Mary Ruth Roberts Weldon Ingram and Lois Snider. The groom leaves for Oregon Tuesday to work for a lumber company. Mrs. Vaden will finish the term of school and join him afterward.

Local 4-H Club Boys Take Prizes At Stock Show
Three Andrews County 4-H boys showed a labor income of 334.84 on five Hereford steer calves at the Sand Hills Hereford Show in Odessa last week, sold at the auction. J A Fowler Jr won 22.00 prize money on his 880 pound steer bred by Ellison Tom and sold for 128.10 to Midland Production Credit Association. Cost of care and feed 60 left a labor profit of 90.10. Gene Irwin earned 36.50 in prizes on two Hereford steers bred by K H Irwin, sold to Walter Mathews and Daggett Keen Commission for 186.24 and net labor income 122.74. Barney Joe Fowler showed two calves bred by Ellison Tom and A G Bohanon, earning 23.25 in cash wards and selling calves for 11.27, with cost 112.50 leaving net labor profit 122.02. Many Andrews residents attended the show and sale, pleased with results and interest rising for the 1940 shows.
