The Flying Andrews Mustangs won their third meet of the season at the Permian Basin Relays in Kermit totaling 143 points. Andrews placed in 13 of 14 events led by Gary Warren in pole vault and Mike Gordon in the 120 high hurdles. Second place finishes came from Ronnie Hair in the 440 and Sam Graham in the mile, with several third and fourth places across events.
The Andrews golf team narrowed the District 2AAA race to five strokes, moving to 1264 behind Monahans 1259. Monahans led by about 30 strokes earlier as the season nears its end.
Neil Rucker, wounded in Vietnam, phoned his parents from Okinawa via radio to California. He has partial vision in the damaged eye and a severe leg wound, and officials expect word on his hospitalization location in the coming days.
Mrs A B Stickney of Midland an Andrews County pioneer died Friday night at Scott and White Hospital in Temple Funeral services were held Monday morning at the First Methodist Church in Midland with burial there Survivors include her husband A B and three sons Frank of Andrews Joe and Francis both of Midland seven grandchildren also survive

Andrews will host the district 2AAA tennis meet for Seminole schools on Friday and Saturday and the sixth annual Junior High Band Festival on Saturday. Twentyone bands compete across Class C CC and CCC with opening performances at 7 45 a m and 11 05 a m and trophies awarded for top bands. Local judges Gary Garner Ben Gollehon and Orland Butler preside.
A taxi driven by Artus Pyle of 810 M 5th. collided in two crashes within two days. On Monday the 1968 vehicle struck a parked car owned by Phil Dyer on Main Street with $175 total damage and cited for improper backing and leaving information. On Tuesday the same vehicle sideswiped a parked car owned by Amanda Gilcrest on North Main and cited for leaving the scene. A separate Friday noon wreck involved Virginia Maxey’s car backing into a pole behind the chamber building with $200 damage.
Andrews High School sent two entrants to the area science fair with top honors. Billie Smith earned runner up sweepstakes in math chemistry and physics and will represent the region at the international science fair in May in Fort Worth. Carol Brenholtz won first place in mathematics in her first science fair. Kenneth Williamson accompanied the pair to the event.
Friday marks Hospital Auxiliary Day in Andrews as the Pink Ladies toast 12 years of service and install new officers. The event showcases 41 charter members still in town, with 56 active volunteers logging 7,004 hours in the past year at Permian General Hospital.
