Treason Charge Filed Against Kawakita in Los Angeles
Tomoya Kawakita 26, an American born Japanese, was arrested by the FBI on treason charges for alleged mistreatment of captured prisoners of war. An American soldier who recognized him on the street in October led to the G men pursuit, with other former prisoners later identifying him. Kawakita had traveled to Japan in 1939 on an American passport and returned last year on a possibly forged passport concealing wartime activities.
