Bike A Thon Slated For June 22

The second annual Bike A Thon for Cancer is announced by the Andrews County Chapter of the American Cancer Society. Amoco Expands Andrews Office After Hobbs Move

Amoco Production announces administrative realignment with the Hobbs and Andrews offices consolidated in Andrews effective August. Alex Clarke Jr named area superintendent for the 18 county Andrews area. The 12 new staff will join an expanded 801 North Main Street office as six rigs operate locally.

Highway Plan Okayed for East Broadway Big Spring Link

Texas Highway Commission granted conditional approval for widening a 0.7 mile stretch from Mustang Drive to east of East Broadway to serve the Andrews County Civic Center. Local officials must accept maintenance and construction responsibilities. the project includes paving and support at an estimated $192,000.

Andrews City Considers Gas Company Purchase Offer

A special study session of the Andrews city council is set for Monday at 7 30 p m to review data on a possible city purchase of the Andrews Gas Company. City Manager Len Wilson will present an inventory of gas system assets financial schedules on loans and bond repayments. The offer from gas company owners is 726 500. No final council position has been decided.

Berry Placed On New Bonds By Justice Of The Peace

James Harold Berry who escaped from the county jail last week was brought before Justice of the Peace Robert Matthews on new charges including breaking jail and assaulting a peace officer. Bonds set at 10 000 for each count, Berry remains in maximum security with total bonds at 120 000. Previously Berry faced two rape charges with 50 000 bonds each totaling 100 000.

Four Sentenced in District Court to State Prison

Four cases led to state prison terms in district court this week. Ellen Brown received two years for probation violation after leaving Texas for New Mexico. Donald Eugen Sechrest got five years for burglary tied to the Jan 15 1974 Dyer residence theft. Garry D Burger drew four years for second degree burglary linked to the McDonald’s Swap Shop theft. Paul Thomas Shenep was sentenced to five years for theft over $50 in a major Permian Basin oilfield ring involving DA&S Well Service.

Cleanup Drive Shows Results
