Andrews Honors Dr Hutcheson Rodeo Parade Opens Junior Event

A 3:30 p.m. parade marks the start of a three day junior rodeo at the Andrews Rodeo grounds on Seminole Highway. The ATRA show draws entrants from West Texas and Eastern New Mexico with over 200 riders and about 700 events across three nights. The parade begins at M&M Chevrolet and features the Andrews County Sheriff's Posse. A barbecue at Pioneer Park follows the opening ceremony. Out of town participants will attend as guests. Tickets available.

Outstanding Citizen Award Goes to Local Physician

Dr. Z. W. Hutcheson of Andrews was named 1966 Outstanding Citizen at the Chamber of Commerce banquet. Since arriving in 1946 after WWII service, he helped found the Lions Club and the Andrews Chamber, led Red Cross and United Fund drives, and served on regional boards while promoting town beautification and outdoor life.

Means Memorial Minister Arrives

Rev. Norman Grigsby began duties as pastor of Means Memorial Methodist Church on June 1, delivering his first sermon this Sunday. He and his wife Von Dell and two children relocated from Grover where he led the Methodist Church. He hails from McLean, trained at West Texas State and Perkins School of Theology, and previously founded Kinwood Methodist Church in Amarillo.

Andrews schools approve six resignations and new hires

The Andrews boards approved seven resignations, four new teachers, and five re assignments for the 1967 68 school year. Edwin A Brenholtz longtime director of instruction will join Texas Tech education work in Lubbock.

Local Lions Attend District Conference

A delegation from the two Andrews Lions clubs attended the district convention in Odessa over the past weekend. Carruth a past district governor and Woolam longtime Lions worker led Andrews reps with Bristol and Dickenson from Downtown and Evening Lions clubs. Linda Williams competed in the district sweetheart contest won by Linda Ward of Odessa Downtown Lions. Judge Walter L. Buenger of Fort Stockton was elected district governor, Lion since 1937 and noted Fort Stockton Lion of 1965.

Petitions circulate in Andrews requesting the commissioners to call an election on forming a county development board. The board would promote Andrews County growth and authorize a five cent per hundred valuation appropriation from the general fund.

Jaycees Donate 50 to Boys Club in Civic Challenge

The Andrews JCA high school group also contributed 50 dollars and issued a challenge to other civic bodies to match or better the gift. Jaycees president Bob Howard praised youth effort and urged local organizations and businesses to support the Boys Club to avoid its possible closure.

Water Dept Cited for Safety Merit Award

The Andrews City Water Department received a 1966 merit citation from the Southwest Section Safety Committee. Superintendent Womack Jones said the award honors utilities with under 50 employees that complete a full year without lost-time injuries. The certificate was mailed by Mel C. Binney, committee chairman.

Andrews County 4H youths compete at the state roundup at Texas A M from June 5 to 7. Susan Irwin of Texas Tech enters her final 4H year in the State Foods Show after county and district wins. Five local boys from the talent contest advance to Share the Fun at A M with Billy Neal Dan Fisher Mike Smyers Tommy Robertson and Carl Rogers. Pete Millican the county agent will accompany the band and Mrs Marcheta Woods will assist Susan.
