The county sheriff reports a drop in thefts in oil fields with other thefts from clothes lines and parked cars. Sheriff J A Bud Gregory notes 62 inmates spent 298 days in jail, 32 local court warrants processed, 4 out of county warrants, 19 civil processes executed, and 137 calls investigated. Local deputies logged 10 174 miles patrolling. 29 drunk arrests and six juvenile offenses. multiple counts including DWI liquor sale swindle and various thefts. Traffic incidents totaled 18 with 13 injuries and $10 380 in property damage. Citations include 34 speed 15 no license 11 red light and various other infractions. Star Discount Center Announces Andrews Store Opening
Officials from Star Discount Center announced plans to open a new discount center in Andrews. The Abilene office said a target opening date is not set, with hopes to be ready later in the month. The six day operation will run about 12 hours daily, employing 8 to 10 fulltime staff plus some part time help. The store will offer hardware, ladies and mens wear, drugs, cosmetics, toys, sporting goods, and light automotive parts.

Services Held For Mrs. Earl Baker 69
Funeral services for Mrs. Earl Baker age 69 were held at 2 p.m. yesterday at the Downtown Church of Christ with Rev Doyle Kekey officiating. Interment followed at Andrews Cemetery. She died Friday morning at Permian General Hospital after an extended illness. Born in Rose Bloom Mississippi she married on September 3 1913 in Throckmorton and had lived in Andrews 17 years. She was a member of the Downtown Church of Christ and resided with her husband at 301 NW 8th. Survivors include three daughters Mrs Dolly Rickeston Mrs Maurine Waggoner and Mrs Lola Pack. one son Weldon Baker. three sisters two brothers and a nephew eight grandchildren and a great grandchild. Pallbearers were R A Riggs Frank Crown Leslie Bassinger Bob Dillard Wes Barnes.
