Huntsville Shrines Draw 50 000 Visitors To Houston Memorials
Between now and September an estimated 50 000 people will stop in Huntsville to visit the Sam Houston Memorial museum and surrounding shrine sites. The park includes Houston home structures, the Grave at Oakwood Cemetery with a 12 foot monument, and the two block Memorial Drive spur. The open air museum houses relics of San Jacinto and Houston era artifacts. The shrine complex sits on the Sam Houston State Teachers College campus and attracts school children as well as tourists, all maintained as part of Texas history.
