City Council Votes First Reading On Gas Meter Hike
The council approved the first reading of a proposed 50 cent per meter gas rate increase for Andrews Gas Co to cover losses and fund capital upgrades. Only Conrad Turner spoke at the public hearing, calling the rise nominal and criticizing subsidies and regulatory bailouts. Ira Lee Brannan, the company CPA, said they seek a fair profit and were not aiming for regulatory control. Mayor Louis Miller closed the hearing as the council debated the ordinance wording with Councilman Steve Smith.

City Sets Tax Rate Ratio For Next Year
