Police investigated one wreck at Main and Broadway involving Glenn Wayne Daily of Abernathy driving a 1956 model car with $150 damage. Robert Joe Cunningham of Hobbs drove the other vehicle Daily was cited for following too closely. Two men were arrested for drunkenness and fined $18 each.
City council directed Marcella Cure to place 985 000 water and sewer bond proceeds in a two percent time deposit at Commercial State Bank for over 182 days after bond attorney approval. Dorothy Byrd to provide Dr Neil Hayes with annexation ordinances. Hayes plans utilities on property near proposed county hospital site in northeast Andrews.
Kermit and Andrews meet Friday in a pivotal test of strength at Andrews High School gym as the Mus tangs chase their first loss free record. The Mustangs beat Pecos 55-54 in a late conference thriller while Monahans edged Kermit 53-52. Pecos and Ector sit tied for last at 1-3.
Over the weekend five minor fires kept volunteer firemen busy from Saturday through Tuesday. A trailer at Lynn Haven Motel 521 West Broadway was gutted. owner W A Lynn estimated $2200 in damages. A grass fire on Southwest 8th at 1 pm Sunday spread to a nearby house but caused no damage. A hay stack fire southeast of Andrews at Five Wells Horse Camp on the Schr Bauer Ranch was reported at 3 30 pm. A bathroom fire at 600 Southeast Avenue F caused by a gasoline explosion was extinguished before crews arrived. A heater theater fire on a Gulf Oil lease 16 miles southwest of Andrews was put out. damage $75.
Floyd Peacock county tax assessor collector said on Wednesday that 1 080 poll tax receipts had been issued at noon. The office will remain open until midnight Saturday to issue receipts.

Andrews County hosts the March of Dimes campaign climax this weekend with activities from bridge and bowling tournaments to progressive coffees. Campaign director Mrs John E Smith aims for a $1 per capita contribution toward a national goal of $65,000,000.
Mothers of Andrews County plan a Friday 6 to 7 pm Mothers March to raise funds against polio birth defects arthritis and other viruses. Lead organizer Mrs Carham urges participation with district captains guiding mothers to visit homes during the hour. Section captains include Mrs Jack Shepherd Mrs Joe Nichols Mrs Aez Cain and Mrs Ted Ellis with contact numbers provided.
The B P W Club Mystorama at Andrews High School Auditorium Friday at 8 will raise funds to buy benches for Humble Means Camp Park. Admission is 1 for adults and 50 cents for students. Frances Gerald and Berthold Balkum announced dual acts by Boxley Marie the Miracle Masters and local acts Night Beats.
